The Honda Classic is a PGA TOUR golf tournament played in late February or early March at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. With expanded seating around the infamous Bear Trap, new VIP areas and gourmet food trucks, the 2019 Honda Classic was ready for more fans than ever to attend this year’s event.

Founded in 1972 as Jackie Gleason’s Inverrary Classic, The Honda Classic is a PGA TOUR golf tournament played each March at PGA National in Florida. In 1981, American Motors (AMC) backed the tournament, but in 1982, Honda took over the title sponsorship.
Of the 11 winners since The Honda Classic has been held at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course at PGA National, five have either won a major or would go on to win a major (Ernie Els, Y.E. Yang, Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington, and Scott).
KEITH MITCHELL WINS THE 2019 HONDA CLASSIC. Keith Mitchell was 15 feet away from accomplishing a dream. Fifteen precious feet of real estate on the 18th green of The Champion course at PGA National Resort & Spa. Mitchell had fought his way to the top of a crowded leader board in the final round of The Honda Classic.
Justin Thomas wins the 2018 Honda Classic in front of a record-breaking crowd of more than 224,000 at PGA National Resort & Spa. Once again, The Champion course at PGA National Resort & Spa proved to be a beast. And once again, The Champion course identified the best player in The Honda Classic, even if it took a playoff.

1986: Monday qualifier Kenny Knox wins by one-shot over Clarence Rose, Jodie Mudd, Andy Bean, and John Mahaffey in spite of shooting a third round 80. 1987: Mark Calcavecchia wins his first Honda Classic title. Only the year before he worked as a caddy at the tournament.

1974: Leonard Thompson earned the first of his three PGA Tour wins, one shot ahead of Hale Irwin. After his victory, Thompson donated $10,000 of his winnings to the Boys Clubs of America. 1978: Jack Nicklaus birdies the last five holes to defeat Grier Jones by one shot, for his third consecutive win at Inverrary.
The club consists of five elegant 18-hole courses, but The Honda Classic is played on the distinctive Champion Course every year. The course was redesigned in 2014 and is now famous for “The Bear Trap,” a challenging three-hole stretch designed by the Golden Bear himself, Jack Nicklaus.
It’s a world class field of PGA stars for the 2021 Honda Classic. Four-time Major winner, Brooks Koepka, a local hero here in The Palm Beaches leads the way. Then you have Lee Westwood, Padraig Harrington, Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson, and longtime great Phil Mickelson.
Know Before You Go. Yes, fans are welcomed to cheer on their favs. Spectator capacity is limited and for everyone’s safety, the Honda Classic is asking you to follow simple guidelines. While on the grounds please wear a mask, it’s a local ordinance in The Palm Beaches.
