Topics covered include toy safety, poison control, the development of appropriate play space, controlling high traffic areas in the center, and other safety standards. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to identify common indoor injuries and identify appropriate ways to prevent these injuries. Students will also learn about the basic components of toy safety, potential safety hazards with specific equipment, and ways in which children may be exposed to poisons.
This 10 hour certificate program provides basic information and recommended practices for the following core health and safety content areas from the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG). Topics include: Indoor/Outdoor Safety; Handling and Storage of Hazardous Materials; Transportation and Field Trip Safety; SIDS and SUIDS Prevention; Shaken Baby Syndrome; Preventing and Managing Infectious Disease; Food Allergies; Medication Administration; and Emergency and Disaster Preparedness. In addition, this course provides basic information and recommended practices in recognition and reporting of child abuse and neglect and child development. It is comprised of three (3) individual courses that total 10 hours in training.

This course presents information about early childhood obesity and strategies for addressing obesity and promoting healthy behaviors in child care. When successfully implemented, these strategies can help to improve the health of all children in your care.
