Hunters may hunt any of the open public land within the unit or get landowner permission to hunt on private land within the unit. There is no limit to the number of assistants an elk hunter may take into the field, but only the permit holder is allowed to hunt.

In order to hunt in Kentucky, anyone born on our after January 1, 1975 and age 12 or older must carry a Hunter Education card in their possession while hunting. The KDFWR now has a permit that allows someone to hunt without a Hunter Education card for up to one year.

He can also go as a mentored youth until he reaches 12 yrs. old. Mentored youths can hunt squirrels, groundhogs, turkeys and antlered deer if I am not mistaken.
