Many UT grads choose to stay here because it is so different from the rest of Texas.
Some people really do prefer colleges that give you a lot of personalized attention and hold your hand and I think that’s more of a personal preference. Despite the flaws, the massive amount of UT alumni makes it a valuable club with the most Fortune 1000 executives in the world on a per $ basis, and it’s the flagship state public school of Texas.
UT Austin and its System (via the Board of Regents) gets the LION's share of higher education funding from Texas' taxpayers, and from the PERMANENT FUND from oil and gas Severance Taxation, PERIOD! This funding scheme has been controversial since an early 1930's inception.
