Courses you are currently taking do not count as earned hours. Check GradPlan to see your earned hours. New First-year students, after submitting a deposit, viewing the registration videos and then completing the Student Information form.
Current students that wait to register may have more limited course options. Any UNC Asheville student who interrupts their educational program must apply for readmission. Apply for readmission here (see the Returning Students section).
The student’s transcript will indicate when a course has been repeated for grade replacement purposes. Students who have graduated cannot file requests for retroactive grade replacements, and cannot replace the grades in courses taken prior to graduation.
Any UNC Asheville student who interrupts their educational program must apply for readmission. Apply for readmission here (see the Returning Students section). If you have any questions, please contact the Academic Success Center at [email protected].
Fail grades are included in your trimester GPA and cumulative GPA. You may be eligible for exclusion if you fail the same course three times. Refer to the Academic Standing, Progression and Exclusion Policy (PDF 51k).
Drop/Add, Late Add and Withdrawals During the registration period through week 1, you can add and/or drop courses online via OnePort. To drop all courses before or during drop/add week, submit the online Enrollment Notification Form.
** REMEMBER: You can only utilize Grade Replacement a total of 4 times during your undergraduate career and Grade Replacement cannot be combined with the Academic Renewal/Grade Forgiveness Policy.
To change your current advisor or get an additional advisor: Bring a signed Advisor Request form to the Academic Success Center with the signature of your new advisor (and department chair if you have already declared a major). You can use this form to add an advisor for a minor as well.
Students who find that they must withdraw from the University need to “officially withdraw.” They can do so during the drop/add week by dropping all courses online via OnePort and completing the Enrollment Notification form online.
A letter grade of a D is technically considered passing because it not a failure. A D is any percentage between 60-69%, whereas a failure occurs below 60%.
If you are enrolled in 12+ attempted credit hours during your first semester (fall or spring) of attendance at ECU and fail all your courses (including “I” incomplete grades), you will be academically suspended for one semester.
Academic Standing To be in good standing, a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and a 67% or greater earned‑to‑attempted pass rate must be maintained.
If you choose, you may declare up to three areas of study. This could be two majors and a minor, or one major and two minors.
Students are required to declare a major once they have earned 60 semester hours. Students who do not declare a major after earning 60 semester hours will have a hold placed on their records that prevents registration. Some majors require the completion of specific prerequisites prior to declaring.
Complete the Student Information Form, located under Next Steps in your Application Portal. This will prompt your RAN (Registration Access Number) to be sent to your UNCA email. You will need this number to register beginning April 18th at 8am.
Current degree-seeking students can use the Schedule Planner tool to build a schedule for next semester.
Students have access to registration at 7 a.m. on their first day of registration (see below). Your registration start date is determined by your classification and number of earned hours. Registration will be open for students through the end of the Add/Drop period. Courses you are currently taking do not count as earned hours.
Degree-seeking students must make an appointment with their advisor to obtain a RAN (Registration Access Number).

If the student does not register in the 24 hour period, their ability to register expires and the next student on the Waitlist is notified. Students should check their email daily for possible notification that they may register for a Waitlisted class.
Early registration occurs for current students in April, for summer and fall classes, and in November for spring classes. Registration is based on a student’s earned hours with 105+ earned hours beginning first. Earned hours do not include any hours for which students are currently registered unless they have been graded.
Each semester, advising will occur in March for summer and fall registration, and in October for spring registration. Students meet with their assigned advisor to discuss what classes to take and to obtain their registration access number (RAN) which is required in order to be able to register for classes.
If you want or need to take the course again in the future, an audit may be more appropriate then withdrawing from the course. Auditing a course will allow you to continue to attend the course and be exposed to the course material, which may assist in the future when you enroll in the course again. The Audit form requires the instructor’s signature as well as financial aid, if you’re an aid recipient. Regular tuition and fees still apply for audited courses.
Accepted students will receive their OnePort log-in information with their acceptance letter, along with other important instructions on how to register for classes. Oftentimes, new students are required to attend a new student orientation in order to get registered, so it’s important to read the acceptance letter carefully as well as any other communications from UNC Asheville.

Students who need to exit the university prior to classes starting or during the first week of a fall/spring semester should submit the Enrollment Notification Form.
Students who find that they must withdraw from the University after the drop/add week:
The Hardship Withdrawal policy exists for students who encounter an unforeseen extraordinary situation such as a serious illness or injury or some other significant personal situation after the withdrawal deadline, which prevents the student from being able to successfully continue in their classes.
Withdrawals count towards attempted hours, which are included in calculating academic standing and financial aid eligibility . Withdrawing from a course may also affect your enrollment as a full-time student, which could affect your ability to live on campus.
