Dates and procedures differ in each Engineering department. Click on the link for your current major (again, see your Student Center on SPIRE) below for information on how to prepare, what to bring, and when/how advising meetings are scheduled and/or will occur:
It is extremely important to follow the advising procedures set up in your department. If you do not attend your designated advising session, a HOLD will be placed on your SPIRE account. You will be unable to register for classes and/or make changes to your schedule, until the HOLD is lifted.
The Chief Undergraduate Advisors/Undergraduate Program Directors are listed here.
Each engineering department has their own specific criteria for admission. See Admission to the Engineering Major.
To accept your offer of admission you must pay your nonrefundable $500 enrollment deposit using the link in your offer letter.
UMass Amherst rarely approves requests to defer admission decisions for students who are unable to attend during the admitted entering term indicated on their offer letter. Undergraduate Admissions will consider a deferment request for students with specific, significant circumstances.
First-year students should accept their offer of admission online by May 1 or within two weeks if receiving Notice of Admission after April 15. The sooner you accept your offer of admission, the sooner you may sign up for summer orientation, submit your housing request, etc.
Your application for admission is used to determine your eligibility for all merit-based scholarships awarded by UMass Amherst. If you have been awarded a scholarship then you will see a Financial Award link when viewing your Admissions Decisions on your personal Admissions Center in SPIRE.
Certain majors are highly competitive and we are not able to admit every applicant. If you wish to transfer to your original first choice major or another program after enrolling, we recommend that you work with your academic advisor to learn the requirements for admission.
If you would like to change your major, send an email to the Admissions Office by April 1. We will review all requests as soon as possible and respond before May 1. Please note that you may have to meet certain academic requirements if you are requesting a competitive major. If a major is already "closed," no requests into it will be reviewed.
Your admission was based, in part, on the course schedule you declared in your application. Therefore, we will approve drops in your schedule only for medical reasons or extenuating circumstances. You can change your schedule, but the change normally must be to a comparable level course, e.g. AP for AP, honors for honors, etc.
