The 10th Friday of each quarter is the deadline to submit add requests. The 11th Friday of each quarter (finals week) is the deadline to submit: Final Paperwork for degree completion. Fully completed forms must be received in the Graduate Division by the deadline date; department approval alone does not constitute meeting a deadline.

Note: The official university deadline to add classes (including Special Studies classes) is Friday of Week 2. Requests to add classes after Week 2 are not guaranteed and require a request submitted through the Enrollment Authorization System (EASy) to be approved by both instructor and department offering the course, and submitted to the Office of the Registrar by 4 p.m. on Friday of the final week of instruction.

Undergraduate students who wish to drop all their courses are required to file an undergraduate withdrawal form with their college academic advising. Please see the W (Withdraw) grade regulation that applies after the fourth week of instruction. Graduate students who plan to withdraw from UC San Diego should contact their graduate program.
The UC San Diego Triton Registration Installment Plan (TRIP) is available for students who desire an alternative method of financing their registration fees on a short-term basis. All students in good financial and academic standing are eligible for the program, except for those students whose financial aid or graduate support will pay their registration fees.
The rules regarding residence for tuition purposes at the University of California are governed by the California Education Code and implemented by standing orders of the Regents of the University of California. Under these rules, adult citizens and certain classes of resident aliens can establish residence for tuition purposes. There are particular rules that apply to the residence classification of minors.
The university registration fee covers services that benefit the student and are complementary to, but not a part of, the instructional program, and it includes recreational activities, student organizations, and the Student Health Service. No part of this fee is refunded to students who do not make use of these privileges.
Undergraduate students may drop a course before the end of the sixth week of instruction; approval to withdraw from a course after the end of the sixth week of instruction and before the end of the tenth week of instruction may be granted by petition to a student’s college provost for emergency reasons. Graduate students may drop a course before the end of the ninth week of instruction; approval to withdraw from a course after the end of the ninth week of instruction and before the end of the tenth week of instruction may be granted by petition to the dean of the Graduate Division for emergency reasons.
Students are considered enrolled when they have requested space in at least one course and space in classes has been reserved. Students are not considered registered until they have both enrolled in courses and paid registration fees. Waitlisting a class does not constitute enrollment.
UC San Diego undergraduates can take classes at other campuses through the simultaneous enrollment program ( take classes at another UC campus while simultaneously enrolled at UC San Diego), the cross-enrollment program (take classes at California State University or California Community College campuses), or the Intercampus Visitor Program (visit another UC campus for a quarter).
Each graduate program sets a unique application deadline. Most deadlines occur between December and February for admission to fall quarter. A few programs accept applications for winter, spring, and summer admissions. For specific program deadlines, refer to the graduate admission instructions on the Graduate Division website or contact the specific program office. Applicants need not have completed their undergraduate programs prior to applying.
The Graduate Division is administered by the dean of the Graduate Division, who is responsible for graduate admissions; graduate degree programs; the administration of fellowships, traineeships, and other graduate student support; the development of new programs; and the maintenance of common standards of high quality in graduate programs across the campus.
Nondegree status is granted for up to one year ; students may petition the dean of the Graduate Division for a second year of nondegree status.
A minimum of at least thirty-six quarter-units are required: twenty-four units in graduate courses, including a minimum of fourteen units in graduate-level courses in the major field; ten additional units in graduate courses; and twelve additional units in graduate or upper-division courses. Students should consult their graduate program for specific unit and course requirements.
Students who are approved by their major department and by the dean of the Graduate Division for enrollment in a program of half-time study (maximum of six units or fewer) for reasons of occupation, family responsibilities, or health, may be eligible for a reduction in fees.
