Tysen Manor Golf Course, which was located on 100-acre (40 ha) site between Hylan Boulevard, Mill Road, New Dorp Lane, and Tysens Lane, was in existence from 1928 until 1936.

From 1899 through 1926 the Staten Island Amateur was played annually at either Fox Hills or Richmond County Country Club. Like many private golf courses of that era, the Great Depression, as well as the growing number of public courses, contributed to the end of the club and Fox Hills closed in 1935.

Staten Island has four golf courses. La Tourette, Silver Lake, and South Shore are public, while Richmond County Country Club is the only private country club in New York City. The New York City Amateur is conducted annually at La Tourette Golf Course by the Staten Island Golf Association.

In the 1930s, the late Al Deppe one of Staten Island's best known restaurateurs, bought the house (where the Elks Club is now). Deppe installed a bar and converted an adjoining enclosed porch into a cocktail lounge.

Clove Road & Hylan Blvd. In addition to the restaurant, my Dad built a miniature golf course at the intersection. of Clove Road and Hylan Boulevard circa 1930 in partnership with Tad Wright. He built a tearoom on the golf course that was very successful for several years.
For all those who remember eating at the Victory Diner on Richmond Road, below is a video of the diner being moved from its former Richmond Road (near Seaver Avenue) home to its new location at the waterfront on Father Capodanno Blvd in Ocean Breeze. The diner was saved from demolition by The Richmond County Savings Bank Foundation who put up $10,000 to buy the diner from owner and long-time cook, Maria Pappas.
Built in 1932. This wasn't the first move for this diner, the Winrock family, the original owner, relocated the restaurant in 1964 from Victory Boulevard in Castleton Corners -- thus the name Victory Diner -- to Richmond Road. The relocation from Victory Boulevard to Richmond Road was in 1964.
The original Nunzio’s was established in South Beach in 1942, at what is now the corner of Sand Lane and Father Capodanno Boulevard. Nunzio moved the business in 1960 to the current location at the corner of Midland Avenue and Hylan Boulevard.
