The new study, "Dr Seuss and the Real Lorax", stemmed from a chance encounter at Dartmouth. Nathaniel Dominy, an anthropology professor with two small children, and Donald Pease, an English professor who wrote a biography of Geisel, found themselves seated next to each other at an academic dinner.

The Lorax is a cautionary tale primarily about a person’s responsibilities to the environment. Dr. Seuss introduces the Once-ler, a reckless Thneed entrepreneur whose unfettered ambition leads to the destruction of the immediate environment.
The Lorax raises ethical issues regarding the environmental impacts of our actions, the moral implications of success, possible dangers of ambition, and the proper way a culpable person reacts and attempts to make amends.
When the Lorax first appears to speak on behalf of the trees, the Once-ler claims he is doing no harm by cutting down Truffula Trees to make Thneeds.
Based on the book by Dr. Seuss, “The Lorax” is set in a city entirely made of plastic, where Truffula trees only exist in the memory of the older residents. A 12 year-old boy named Ted becomes curious about the trees and wants to get one to impress a girl that he likes.
He leaves town in search of the Once-ler, who harvested all the Truffula trees to meet the exploding demand for his “Thneed” business. The Once-ler ignores the warnings of the legendary Lorax, making a desolate wasteland with his factories and forcing the animals to leave in search of new pastures.
In the film, the Once-ler’s major fault is that he was not a principled entrepreneur, which is not to be equated with the activities of the market, a series of profit and loss signals.
