The 42-acre (17 ha) Sarah Lawrence campus is atop a promontory above the banks of the Bronx River. Much of the campus was originally a part of the estate of the College's founder, William Van Duzer Lawrence, though the College has more than doubled its size since Lawrence bequeathed his estate to the College in 1926.
