The reality is that about 9 out of 10 BARBRI students who do the average amount of work pass the bar.
My law school has reported that the median Barbri completion rate for bar passers across all jurisdictions was 78%. For Themis: they report a 95% pass rate (at least in NY) for people who complete at least 75% of the bar prep course, and I think it's pretty similar across jurisdictions (not sure about CA though).

As you watch your percentile rank, your goal is to be approximately in the 30th-40th percentile or higher in each subject as you progress in your studies.
Jun 09, 2019 · I finished 22% of Barbri and passed. Pretty sure I passed handily, but my state doesn't release scores. I only know I scored "above 150" on the MBE. The only other supplement I used was Lean Sheets, which was very helpful.
Re: Is BARBRI enough to pass the bar? Yes, absolutely. In fact, Barbri is set up to be MORE than enough (i.e. more than you should reasonably be able to do - they even TELL you that). They say that if you are doing about 75% of what they assign, you're doing enough.Mar 2, 2012

In short: yes. Barbri and other bar preps use former test questions which all have a sliding scale of difficulty, that range from true bar-difficulty to those wacky absolutely hard tester questions that the majority of bar takers fail and their scores are adjusted accordingly.Jul 7, 2021

While plenty of students do very well by focusing on their BARBRI Bar Review course over 8-10 weeks, we have found that those who engage with BARBRI Early Start before the course begins are statistically more likely to pass the bar exam the first time. All this really means is that the MBE portion of the exam is very important to your overall score in almost all U.S. states, and that many people who fail the bar exam do so by just a few points. In other words, just a few additional points can tip many bar takers into the “passing zone”.
