Students who intend to transfer to baccalaureate degree programs (university) upon completion of their HCC Associates degree should be aware of possible limitations on lower-division course work. Universities will generally not accept more than 66 semester credit hours of lower division academic credit towards the baccalaureate degree.

As a reminder, no more than the equivalent of one class or 3 credits per semester may be counted toward the full course of study requirement if the class is taken online or through distance education.
Of the 12 credit hours, 9 must be face-to-face, and only 1 class or 3 credit hours may be online. Another acceptable option is 8 credit hours face-to-face and only 1 online class of 4 credit hours. (Hybrid classes count as face-to-face classes).
Hybrid courses meet half the time in a traditional face-to-face classroom environment and deliver the remainder of the course presentation, interaction, activities and exercises through various electronic means. A course with 50% face-to-face instruction and 50% electronic instruction is considered face-to-face.
Houston Community College has partnered with Flywire to offer students an innovative and streamlined way to make international tuition payments. Through Flywire, students can pay with their home currency (in most cases), and payments are posted more quickly. Students are notified via email when payment is received
Please note, you must enroll in your classes before you can pay for tuition because tuition is based on the number of SCH you will be taking plus the international F1 insurance.

Grades for courses repeated through credit-by-examination are recorded in the same way as courses repeated through class attendance.
Credit awarded by examination becomes part of the student’s permanent record, and the grade earned on the examination is used in calculating students’ cumulative GPAs.
In order for credit earned through examination to be used in meeting graduation requirements, a student must submit documentation of the passing grade to the appropriate Admissions, Registration, and Records office three weeks prior to the end of the academic term.
A student is not eligible to attempt credit-by examination for any courses in which the student is currently enrolled.
Students may be awarded up to 15 credits for work and life experience as validated by HCC via Portfolios, Advanced Standing and/or Institutional (or Challenge) examinations. These credits cannot be used to fulfill the required minimum credits in residence for graduation, and may not be honored by other institutions.
Nontraditional Credits. Students may be awarded up to 30 credits for nontraditional coursework. Credit will not be awarded for equivalent courses completed at HCC or other institutions. ECEs have been evaluated and found worthy of credit by the American Council on Education. As such, HCC can award credit based on satisfactory scores on these exams. For more information about offered exams visit www.excelsior.edu.
Credit may be granted for a variety of formal military, technical and educational programs based on the student’s program at HCC. Official Community College of the Air Force, AARTS, SMARTS or USCGI transcripts and forms DD214 and DD295, if applicable, should be sent to the Records Office. HCC offers a variety of educational benefits to veterans.
Credit by Portfolio. Students can present portfolios of their work history to appropriate faculty members to be evaluated for college credit. Portfolios can include writing/work samples, job descriptions, etc. For more information on these, please refer to “Industry Certifications” in the catalog.
These subject exams sponsored by the Educational Testing Service are usually administered through high schools at the completion of AP course offerings. HCC awards credits based on the AP exams and minimum scores listed below. Applicants for admission who have taken AP examinations should have an official copy of their scores sent to the Records Office.

In the CSU, the faculty workload allocated for a course is determined by the C-classification or S-factor of a course (plus any ‘excess enrollment’ allocation that may be carried by a large lecture course) and total number of student credit units for the course.
Be enrolled in a Hillsborough County Public, Charter, Private or Home Education program. All schools must have an active articulation agreement with HCC.
Students must plan ahead and communicate with their school counselor at least 10 working days prior to HCC's registration deadline to obtain and complete the required paperwork. The completed documents must be submitted to HCC by the paperwork deadline to allow for processing and to ensure meeting HCC’s final registration deadlines each term.

By submitting documentation (the more, the better!), you may be able to place directly into college-level math and English courses without having to take the placement test.
If you need to take the HCC Placement Test, we encourage you to take a moment to review what will be covered in the test.For English placement, you will take a reading comprehension test. This test has 20 multiple choice questions. After the reading test, you will be asked to write an essay. Find sample reading and writing questions here. Your combined score on reading comprehension and the WritePlacer essay will determine your course placement for English.For math placement, you'll take up to three of these four tests:

Holyoke Community College administer s placement tests using the Accuplacer platform. The tests are taken on a computer over the internet from your home. We have a limited number of on-campus testing appointments available each week for students who prefer that option.
