Physical Geology, x ed., by Plummer and McGeary (Wm. C. Brown Publishers)

Your Grade

Your grade in Geology 101 will be based upon a total of 600 points consisting of: Four in-class examinations worth 100 points each: 100x4 = 400 One writing assignment worth 100 points: 100x1 = 100 Twenty, very short, in-class assignments (worth 5 points each): 5x20 = 100 The final exam is optional unless you miss an hour exam (see below), and will count as 200 points for a total of 800 points..

Make-up exams

There will be no make-up exams. If you miss an hour exam due to an excused (ok'd by me or Kim) absence, then you must take the final exam and your grade will be calculated on the basis of 700 points. Missing a test due to an unexcused absence will result in a zero for that rest being averaged into your grade, plus you have to take the final exam.

Hour exams

THe four examinations will be given September 15, October 4, November 6, and December 6. The tests will be closed book and consist of multiple choice and short answer questions. Study guides will be handed out several days before each exam.

Field trips

There will be several optional field trips to examine the geology of nerarby areas such as South Mountain, Squaw Peak, Tempe Butte, and Papago Park. These field trips are not required, but you are encouraged to attend as many as possible because fundamentally geology is a field science.
