Coursicle is a popular edtech app that helps college students keep track of their schedules and set up notifications about closed and waitlisted classes. Now, one of its founders appears to be having a very public meltdown and is using Coursicle to send strangely personal push notifications to users.
Because class data is publicly available and relatively standardized, Coursicle does not require participation from universities. “We collect information from hundreds of schools, we just have to put in the right links. And we can do that without the university's help,” Puccio said.
Despite the price, students can now get premium for free for a semester by recommending Coursicle with an individual link to three other friends. They can get premium for life by recommending it to 15 friends.

In a written statement, a UNC IT official said Coursicle was blocked because “it does not have administrative nor development controls that are minimally required to deliver a production service to the community.” Some students say UNC's reaction was too severe.
Waitlisting is an option, if made available by the department prior to the tuition due date each semester. Waitlists are maintained in the order that you make your request. If you choose to place yourself on a waitlist you are automatically moved up the waitlist and added to the course when a seat becomes available.
