Course Overload A maximum course load (not full-time status) for an undergraduate student is 18 credits taken across a 15-week semester, with no more than 9 credits per half-semester session.

Northeastern University's calendar enables students to participate in six-month co-op assignments. Each academic year has two full semesters (fall semester, September–December, and spring semester, January–April) and two half semesters of about seven weeks each (summer I, May–June, and summer II, July–August).
Undergraduate students who are juniors or seniors may enroll in graduate courses for credit toward their undergraduate degrees if they meet all prerequisites as determined by the graduate director and they receive permission from the instructor of the course and from the student's undergraduate academic advisor.
And because Northeastern's summer break is four months long, you are still able to enjoy two full months of summer vacation after completing your NUterm experience.

Summer classes may seem strange and unnecessary, and at some universities they may be, but at Northeastern taking a summer class is not out of the ordinary. In fact, depending on your path to graduation you may be taking classes over many summers.
Writing Intensive – Students must complete two, approved writing intensive courses within their major. The list of available options can be found in the degree audit under “Writing Intensive”. Capstone – Complete one approved capstone course within your major in the final semesters.
Usually, the capstone course serves as one of the major-specific writing courses. AWD Online Classes – Students who are strong writers, who are self-motivated and visual learners, and who are comfortable sharing their work with others and offering peer critiques are most successful in our online courses.
If you test into Intermediate 1 you can either. take the Intermediate 1 class with no extra steps, or opt out of the spoken language classes by taking an oral interview with the Language Department . If you pass the interview, you can then be waived out of Elementary 1 and 2, and simply take an approved culture course.
