Course cartridges are publisher-made courses, available to instructors that adopt textbooks with a course cartridge component. Not all books will have course cartridges available.

The Blackboard packaging format follows the IMS Content Packaging Specification with extensions to support content types that are specific to Blackboard Learn.
If the assignment is not used in the main organization, it is restored in an assignments content area. On export, a single file is produced, which merges the description and attachments. Also web content can be marked as an assignment. Alignments. Alignments to standards are exported for all Common Cartridge items.
Basic LTI Links can be exported and imported. If using an imported Common Cartridge package, instructors need to configure the LTI link in the Packages and Utilities area of the course's Control Panel before it is functional.
Items: Text entered in the text editor is exported as an HTML file. Attachments aren't exported as part of the item, but if they are stored in Course Files, they are included in the course package.
All course forums are exported together, including group forums, if present. Threads are not exported.
All course files are exported as a web content folder to the /csfiles/home_dir/my_files directory. Role restrictions are used to limit permissions to Instructors only on any file not available to all users.
Choose Import Course Cartridge from the Packages and Utilities drop-down menu in the Control Panel. You should now see the Import Course Cartridge screen as shown below.
You should get a message near the top of your screen informing you that you Cartridge content has been queued for download into your course site and that you will be notified by campus email when the process has been completed.
4d. Note that if you copy Settings, and the source course is Available, the new course will be set to Available. If you choose Settings and you want the new course to remain unavailable, be sure to switch it back off after the copy is complete (Main tab – click on the green “O” next to the course).
Blackboard will confirm your request and send you an email when the export file is complete.
The copy or import processes do not impact the availability of reserves items at the library or the display of library resources on the Course Reserves list in the library catalog. You will need to contact rclreserves@library.rochester.edu in order to reactivate physical reserves lists and make them available in the library.
The Course Import Tool makes it easy to extract course content, assignments, and quizzes from previous terms and quickly import them into existing courses. The same tool is used to import course materials from different Learning Management Systems. Some limitations apply to course imports.
Copying content retains any links or files associated with the content, such as in an assignment.
Draft State settings are retained in course imports. If an assignment is unpublished in a course when it was copied or exported, the assignment will also be unpublished in the content import.
Note: Importing a course more than once may have unintended consequences. If you import content into a new course, edit the content in the new course, and later import the previous content again, the imported content will override the existing content.
Copy course content from term to term, including Announcements and Discussions . You can adjust the events and due dates to coordinate with your current term.
If you import LTI content from a course, the external tool may need to be reconfigured in the course that receives the content in order for that content to be accessible.
Assignments with a manual grade posting policy and anonymous assignments retain the manual grade posting policy and their anonymous settings as part of the course import.
To import all content from the course, select the All Content radio button [1]. If you want to select specific content, click the Select specific content radio button [2]. Note: If you select the specific content option, you are required to select the content you want to import after you review the remaining page options.
To import assessment content created in New Quizzes, click the Import assessment content as New Quizzes option. Selecting this option will convert assessments in the import package to New Quizzes format.

You can import prior content from Common Cartridge into a Canvas course.
Some systems recycle their IDs for each new export. Therefore, if you export two separate question banks they will have the same IDs. To prevent losing assessment data Canvas treats the question banks as separate objects despite the IDs. Choosing this option will disable this safety feature and allow assessment data to overwrite existing data with the same IDs.
We have instructions for importing the packages into a Blackboard course. The instructions are copied below, but the 2 key points are that you should unzip the file you initially download, as it contains the IMS package file as well as instructor resources. Then the IMS package file is uploaded onto a page as a content item.
