Abeka Academy is available as a full-grade enrollment for ages K4–12th grade. A full-grade enrollment includes the core subjects: Language Arts, Arithmetic/Mathmatics, History & Geography, Science & Health, and Bible. In addition, electives such as Spanish, consumer sciences, and keyboarding are available in the secondary grades (7th–12th grade).
Older homeschooling students can use many of the A Beka courses for independent study. Hands-on activities are limited to some science experiments, the construction of some social studies reports, and arts and crafts. All material is written from a Christian perspective.
Some homeschoolers complain that A Beka materials include too many quizzes, drills, and tests, and that the courses tend to focus on detailed, rote learning rather than concepts. However, parents can decide how much of the assessment resources to use, and they might even decide that a child can skip worktext exercises that are redundant.

Required English compositions may be typed if they are longer than 500 words. Be sure to follow the progress report guidelines regarding the proper length for your student's book report books. The oral reading assignments in kindergarten through grade 6 should be the assigned pages noted on the progress report.

Their approach to education is traditional with an emphasis on mastery through drill, repetition, and memorization. Children develop conceptual understanding later.
