The film opens, as usual, with Scrat ( Chris Wedge) trying to find some place to store his acorn. Before he can stick it in the ice, he falls through some ice and into what first seems to be a cave. Scrat puts the acorn on a pad that turns on a giant flying saucer. He bursts it out of the ice block it was trapped in and out into space. After hitting the planets like pinball or pool balls, and creating the solar system, Scrat ends up shot out of the saucer with the acorn. He decides to stick it into an asteroid, naturally causing it to split and send it hurtling toward Earth.
Initially the film was scheduled for release on July 15, 2016. However, the release was delayed to July 22, to avoid competition with the Ghostbusters reboot that was also scheduled for July 15. An extended sneak peek of the movie in the form of a short film called Cosmic Scrat-tastrophe was attached to theatrical showings of Blue Sky Studio's The Peanuts Movie on November 6, 2015.

Julian fell threw the ice and into the water. Cold and wet, Julian was comforted by Peaches. Later, in the morning, Granny, a ground sloth, who was Sid's grandmother, was missing. They heard her yelling and followed it.
Tusker. Julian, like most mammoths, was on a web-site, called Tusker, to help solve his dating problems. On one of his dates, his tusker date was taking hundreds of selfies. This made Julian awfully sad. He looked over to see another mammoth and locked eyes with her.
The fireworks turned out to be a meteor shower. They ran and hid in an Ice Cave until they thought it was safe.
Manny becomes extremely angry with Julian when he finds out him and Peaches were going to move away. Manny tends to make fun of Julian and later tries to convince him to stay by playing a game of hockey. Manny becomes angered by Julian saying that he'll replace Manny as Peaches' hockey partner, and hits the puck directly at Julian's head. Peaches reacts madly , causing peaches to say she will get married and leave home whether her parents like it or not. When in a dire situation, Manny and Julian struggle to bring up a giant crystal, but Julian, realizing that there is an easy solution, tells Manny to trust him, which Manny obliges. Manny becomes proud of Julian, welcomes him into the family and even gives him a hug.
Buck, a weasel and old friend of the herd , returned from underground and told the herd of an asteroid, greeted Julian and the rest of the newer members of the herd, and led them after that. In a forest, during a electrical storm, Peaches was stuck as purple lightening zapped around her.
Peaches is Julian's wife. The two are inseparable and love each other very much. The couple made plans to go off on their own to adventure the world which made Peaches' parents very worried. Peaches watched Julian play hockey with her father and when Manny ends up accidentally hurting Julian, Peaches becomes furious.
Despite his seemingly carefree attitude, he was quite self-conscious about impressing Manny and Ellie, but despite the former's sour behavior towards him, Julian never takes such things personally.
Gertie was hatched to Gavin and Gavin's Wife, being the oldest out of two eggs.
Gertie was strong, independent, and cool dino-bird who enjoys helping her family. Unlike her brother Roger, Gertie is ferocious, eager to get revenge on Buck for causing her family trouble; something her father praises her for. Like her father, she sees Roger as almost completely useless and constantly picks on him.
Gertie and Roger are Gavin's children. Gertie and Gavin admire each other a lot, Gavin liking Gertie's ruthless demeanor and Gertie appreciating Gavin's plans. Both Gavin and Gertie look down on Roger for overthinking situations and being a pushover. Roger just wishes they'd be a normal family.
