While it may be true that UIUC has a high OVERALL acceptance rate (40% - 50%) when compared to other top CS schools like MIT, Stanford & Caltech, the CS department has a much lower acceptance rate.
Use the following steps to write a transfer request letter:
With a GPA of 3.83, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign requires you to be near the top of your class, and well above average. Your transcript should show mostly A's. Ideally, you will also have taken several AP or IB classes to show that you can handle academics at a college level.
Requirements vary depending on your credit level and intended program of study. Our Transfer Handbook is designed to help you determine what you need to do in order to transfer to UIUC, while our Transfer Guide gives an overview of course and GPA requirements.
Illinois accepts 50.96% transfer applicants, which is competitive. To have a shot at transferring into Illinois, you should have a current GPA of at least 3.71 - ideally you're GPA will be around 3.86. In addition, you will need to submit standardized test scores.
Transfer courses must be taken for a letter grade! When you transfer them to ILLINOIS, they will show on your transcript as 'CR' or 'TR' (see GPA Section ).
If you want to change your major now before you come to campus in the fall, you're first required to call Illinois Admissions to speak further about your interests. Then, through your Admitted Student Checklist, you can submit the Program/Term Change Form if you wish to be considered for a new major.
We evaluate your transcripts (and, in some cases, ACT or SAT scores). We require official transcripts from each college or university you've attended, along with official high school transcripts or high school equivalency exam results to verify graduation.
Because the undergraduate programs in CS have grown dramatically over the last several years, and there continues to be a high demand by students wishing to transfer into the CS major, at this time we can accept applications to do a second major only from the very strongest students.
In other words, the student can attend, earn credits, then re-apply to a school they really want. Common application colleges tend to have higher transfer requirements, with some requiring a 2.5 to 3.0 GPA to transfer, with some program-specific requirements being even higher.
60-Credit-Hour Rule No matter how many credits you have when you transfer, you still need to take at least 60 credit hours at UIUC.
Your high school may send your transcripts through an electronic transcript vendor. If your school doesn't work with a vendor and is a U.S. school, your counselor or registrar can email a PDF directly to [email protected] using their school account.
Yes you can change your university after 1st year, but there is a less chance that you will be able to have a lateral entry in other university, you will have to search for colleges that take lateral entries, I have seen lateral entries in engineering but not in BA, so you will have to search for them and apply their.
Never fear–you can change majors if you really need to! In fact, many students switch their majors during their college years. Not just “many” but a majority–a whopping 80% of college students will change their majors at least once. So you will definitely not be alone if you want to change it up.
In general, it's never too late to change college major. This is true even if the switch is made during the last year or semester of college. However, switching majors late in college can mean added costs and semesters, which should not be an issue when changing majors after the first two years of college.

Students may use Transferology to view what coursework will transfer to the university. The transfer course equivalencies and the reports generated from the system do not constitute a contract between the student and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Students still need to contact their college offices to verify how the transfer coursework will be accepted and used towards graduation requirements in that college.
The first time you access Transferology, you will be asked to create an account.
It generally takes about three to six weeks for the credit to show on your record; you can check your DARS report or Academic History in Student Self-Service to see if the credit has posted.
You cannot use this process before you take a course, only after you have already completed a course and sent your off-campus transcript to UIUC.
Special rule for ACCY 201 & 202: Both courses must be taken at UIUC or the entire sequence must be completed off campus. You may not split the sequence between UIUC and a transfer institution. You may not complete the sequence at two different transfer institutions.
How to Apply as a Transfer Applicant. 1. Get prepared. Before applying as a transfer student, you'll want to learn our course and GPA requirements, which of your classes will transfer, whether your intended major is considering applicants, and more.
We also highly recommend that you submit test scores if you have 30 to 59 graded credit hours. Either ACT or SAT I scores are accepted.
You also need to submit a portfolio. More information is available through the School of Art and Design or by calling 217-333-6632.
If they agree the course should be re-articulated, the course will be officially processed (this will take time) and it will be reflected on your DARS and student report when complete.
Illinois has a strong partnership with Parkland College, located in north-west Champaign. They offer various online and on-campus courses, and students may drive (free parking) or take the MTD buses to the campus. Students must complete the UIUC/Parkland Concurrent Enrollment Form and apply/register for classes through Parkland.
Questions about enrolling in the course, fees, timeline, etc. should be directed to the other institution. Many institutions will require you to provide your academic history or a transcript, which you may obtain through Self-Service (unofficial and official transcripts available).
Some courses may already be 'arti culated,' or the University of Illinois already has an agreement to accept a course at another U.S. institution and has evaluated how the course will transfer. If the course is already approved, you may take the course and have the transcript sent to the University- see the section below).
Sometimes course articulations need to be re-evaluated as they may count within a couple of disciplines (similar to a cross-listed course) or it was articulated incorrectly previously . You may submit the course to be re-articulated:
International coursework is NOT reviewable prior to completion of the course, per International Admissions Processing policies.
