Both the UC and California State University require three years of high school math but recommend four as part of the A-G courses that students must take to be eligible for admission. Historically, that typically includes Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2, which often leads to Calculus.
Definition: Any programs or activities that have enriched your child’s academic experiences or helped them prepare for college. Examples include programs such as Upward Bound and Gear Up. The UC application includes a drop-down menu of common programs.
Extracurricular Activities. Definition: Anything your child does outside the classroom that enriches their educational experience —think hobbies, clubs, sports, etc. Our advice: For many students, this will be the biggest section, as it’s a very broad category.

Outlining your UC essays. While 350 words isn’t very long— about three paragraphs—it’s still long enough that you may benefit from outlining your essay in advance. The good news is that most 350-word, three-paragraph essays follow a standard structure.

In an essay this short, the thesis statement does not always come at the end of the first paragraph. Sometimes the first two paragraphs are taken up by captivating narration of an event, and the thesis comes in the conclusion, in the successful thematic and narrative tying-up of the essay.

Honors courses designed by an institution to demonstrate distinctive features that set it apart from regular high school courses in the same A-G subject area are eligible for the UC honors designation.
Your course description should include relevant information that would assist those reviewing your course in having a better understanding and clarity about how the course meets the A-G subject requirements.
The purpose of these course excerpts is to give course authors a model for how to construct course overviews, unit overviews, and sample assignments. We encourage all course authors to consistently review the subject area criteria specific to the courses they are submitting.
In general, it is highly recommended [but not required] high school courses being considered for the UC honors designation will have a non-honors equivalent course offered at the same frequency (e.g., annually, every other year, etc.), in the same subject area, and at the same grade level.

Therefore, do not be put off by this prompt if you are not in a traditionally “creative” role (i.e., artist or poet).
