Students may withdraw from a course through myWCU . A student may not withdraw from a course to avoid an academic integrity violation. After the ninth instructional week of classes, students may not withdraw selectively from courses; they must contact the Office of the Registrar and withdraw from the University.
Graduate Students: Return a completed and signed term withdrawal form to The Graduate School. Students who do not intend to continue at West Chester University may withdraw from the university. Students who elect to withdraw from the university would then need to apply for readmission if they wish to re-enroll in courses.
The University will record a "W" for all courses in which the student is registered. However, if the effective date of official withdrawal is during the last week of classes, a letter grade or NG will be assigned for that course.
A single course withdrawal is only permitted when the student is enrolled in more than one course but isn't requesting to be withdrawn from all courses. The only exception to a post-deadline course withdrawal is a medical withdrawal. Student must submit withdrawal request with supporting medical documentation to the College Dean of the course.
You will be charged a Term Withdrawal fee of 5% of the assessed tuition (up to $100) in addition to other amounts due. If you withdraw after the first five days of instruction, you will owe tuition and mandatory fees according to the schedule below.
It does not affect the student's GPA (grade point average). Although students may be reluctant to have a “W” on their transcript, sometimes “W” stands for Wisdom. Withdrawing from one class may make success in other classes manageable and allow your student to end the semester with a strong GPA.
Contact the Office of Admissions at [email protected] or call (360) 546-9779 to cancel your application for admission only if you are a new undergraduate student that has not attended classes. Continuing students should not register for the upcoming term.
four withdrawalsWITHDRAWAL FROM A COURSE Once four withdrawals have been used, no further withdrawals will be allowed in subsequent terms. Withdrawals that result from the cancellation of enrollment will not be counted.
Failing & Then Re-Taking a Class Croskey notes that dropping a class is better than withdrawing, but withdrawing is better than failing. “A failing grade will lower the student's GPA, which may prevent a student from participating in a particular major that has a GPA requirement,” Croskey says.
Important Definitions. Course Drop: Removal of a course from your schedule prior to the end of the first week of class. Course Withdrawal: Any removal of a course from your schedule after the end of week one using the online form provided.

Applying. You must complete a Withdrawal without academic penalty/financial penalty (W grade) form and lodge it along with supporting documentation that provides evidence of your extenuating circumstances through WesternNow.
Re-registering students can register for the academic year during the relevant registration period.
If you withdraw after the last date to withdraw without academic penalty, you will receive a grade of Withdrawn Fail (WF). This is a failing grade which will be included in the calculation of your Grade Point Average (GPA).
Rejected: You did not meet the minimum requirements for desired programme of study.
Contact the Office of the Registrar with a written request to withdraw from your classes. Your request must be in writing. Verbal withdrawal requests cannot be processed. Please copy your Academic Success Counselor or Advisor on this email.

Once you have withdrawn from the University, please remember to complete the following items:
Students who drop courses during the drop/add period or withdraw from the University during the first 50% of the enrollment period may be eligible for a full or partial reduction of tuition and fee charges.
Courses may be dropped during the first week of a semester or first two days of a summer session. The number of hours for which a student is officially enrolled and upon which tuition and fees are based is that number in which the student is enrolled at the end of the drop/add period.

Click "Menu" icon (top left on myWCU Student Homepage), Search for "Withdraw" and Click "Withdraw from a Course".
Click on the "Add" box to the right of the course section you want to add to your schedule and the course should appear in your summary screen as "Pending"
In the "Action" column next to the class you want to drop, select "Web Drop" from the drop down box
SEARCH FOR MULTIPLE COURSES THAT FULFILL A SPECIFIC ATTRIBUTE (i.e. all courses that fulfill a particular Liberal Studies category, meet at a desired time or campus location, are offered in a particular instructional format, or with a specific instructor)
Students who feel they should have received transfer credit for WCU Liberal Studies classes will submit requests for a re-evaluation to [email protected]. All other requests for a re-evaluation of transfer classes should be emailed to [email protected]

To withdraw, students must provide written notification of the withdrawal. The withdrawal date is the date the student submits the withdrawal form to the appropriate university office.
In extraordinary circumstances , the University may require a student to involuntarily withdraw from the University when it determines that the student poses a significant risk of harm and this measure is the only way to protect the student and/or others and/or to preserve the integrity of the learning environment.
Students who are concurrently taking at least 6 on-campus credits while completing a clinical practicum (internship, field experience) that requires student participation at specified times for a significant part of most days of the week. The practicum must be part of the program's required course work.

Academic Success Program (ASP) students in their first academic year. Student athletes and the students who are actively engaged in athletics as support personnel, if they must be present during all practices, which includes the marching band and color guard.
They are granted this privilege because they have the most critical needs. They would have 48 hours to schedule their classes.
In an effort to assist students in choosing the correct courses for their major and for timely progression to graduation, West Chester University creates a first semester schedule for all first-time, first year students. Schedule prototypes are created by department faculty and reflect a combination of general education and major courses.
Withdrawal Policies. Students may withdraw from a maximum of 16 hours of courses during their career at Western Carolina University. Any withdrawal beyond the limit will result in a Withdraw-Failing (WF) which will affect the semester and cumulative GPA as if it were an F.
Students may repeat a maximum of 16 (up from 15) credit hours. When a student repeats a course, only the most recent grade will be used in calculation of the student's grade point average and counted in the hours toward graduation. All attempts and all grades will remain on the student's transcript.
Good Academic Standing and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). All students are expected to earn and maintain a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 each semester and to successfully complete (earn) at least 67% of their attempted hours.
Liberal Studies: A required set of courses that are part of a student’s bachelor’s degree program. Liberal Studies requires a total of 42 semester hours, distributed in the following way: The Core (21 hours), The First-Year Seminar (3 hours), and The Perspectives (18 hours).
Distance Instruction Courses: Students will be classified as either “Residential” or “Distance” based upon their admission to the university and how their academic program is offered. Programs that are entirely online are “ Distance” whereas programs that are offered on campus are identified as “Residential.” Residential students are permitted to enroll in On-Line/Web-based courses as long as the course has the attribute “Residential Instruction, ” and the student meets all other course requirements. Students that are enrolled as a Distant student are only allowed to register for courses with the attribute “Distance Instruction.”
Academic Dishonesty: This can refer to a range of various offenses, but most commonly includes plagiarism (i.e., taking credit for someone else’s work), cheating, and copying assignments. These are serious charges and may result in failing a course, having a student conduct hearing, and/or being dismissed from the university.
After 60% of the term has passed, students are not allowed to withdraw from a class and the instructor must assign a grade.
If the course is dropped after the end of the Add/Drop deadline, but prior to the Course Withdrawal deadline for the semester, the student will be issued a non-punitive grade of “W”. Individual courses are not permitted to be dropped after the Course Withdrawal deadline. CAUTION!
A red “X” means that the course could not be dropped, along with an explanation.
Students may drop classes from their schedule through the course withdrawal deadline. If the course is dropped prior to the end of the Add/Drop deadline for the session, the class will be removed from the student record.
If you drop all of your courses or if you drop to less than half-time, your loans will be due. You must repay your loans even if you do not complete your program.
Instructors can also deny the request, and you will still be registered for the course.
You are still charged for courses from which you withdraw.
