Import Course Content Into Canvas.
- Log into Canvas with your NetID and password.
- Go to your Sandbox Site. ( Request a Sandbox Here)
- Click on “Settings” from the course sidebar.
- In the right sidebar, click on “Import Course Content.”.
- In “Content type,” select “Moodle 1.9/2.x” from the drop-down list.
- Click on the “Choose file button” for the source and select the Moodle course backup file.
- Content: Choose “All content.”.
- Click on “Import” button.
- You’ll see the file appear under current jobs. if there is an issue with your backup an issues link will appear next to the file completion status.
In Canvas
- Navigate to the new shell.
- Select "Settings"
- Click on"Import Content into This Course" from the buttons on the right.
- Select "Moodle..." for the "Content Type"
- Next to "Source", click the "Choose File" button and browse the Moodle backup file.
- Click "All Content"
- Click "Import"

Select Content Type

Select Question Bank
In the Default Question bank drop-down menu, select the Question bank you want to use for your question bank from Moodle.
Select Migration Content
To import all content from the course, select the All Content radio button [1].
Adjust Events and Due Dates
If you want to adjust the due dates associated with the course events and assignments, click the Adjust events and due dates checkbox.
View Current Jobs
The Current Jobs section displays the status of your import. Running reports display a progress bar indicating the time remaining to complete the import [1].
Import a Blackboard or Moodle archive
If you have a .zip archive of either a Blackboard or Moodle course, you can import that from the Import Existing Content page.
Import a QTI quiz file
QTI is the common file format for quizzes in some LMSs, especially Blackboard and Canvas. Create a QTI .zip file by exporting your quiz out of the previous LMS. It's this .zip that will be imported into the Canvas course.
