No, it is not possible to earn a certificate in a course session that has ended. To earn a certificate you will have to upgrade to the verified track by the course upgrade deadline, and reach a passing score before the course end date.

Most edX courses I’ve taken define their own policies for what makes for a passing grade. Some courses I’ve taken require a minimum grade of 70% , yet others will issue a certificate if you hit 50% or higher. You’ll find out exactly what you need for a passing grade in the syllabus.
The progress tab of edX course shows the person’s name and email id. You can print the complete page along with the url to show it’s genuine.
It will affect your grade. Because it will delete all your assignments and progress. But, it is not the big case yet. As per my experience in Coursera and edX, the biggest lost if I unenroll is Money.
But, edX has openly mentioned in its FAQs that “ people who wish to audit the course for free and have obtained a passing grade can print the ‘Progress chart’ of their course as a proof .” You can check it here.
That being said, it’s good to keep in mind that online course offerings and courses where you don’t actually have to physically go on campus are nothing new. They have been around in one form or another for many years. Before the Internet, there were attempts to offer courses via mail at a discounted rate compared to on campus courses. The same issues plagued the direct-mail education industry as the MOOCs. Very high drop out and in-completion rates.
