About Deficiencies. A student who has received a grade of "I," "F," or "U" in a course has a deficiency in the course. A student whose final grade is "F" or "U" has failed the course. The student must repeat and pass the course before credit will be allowed.

These grades are used for advising students, not for calculating any grade-point average (GPA) at Georgia Tech. Progress report grades are "S" or "U." A grade of "U" indicates that, based on the work completed to that point in the academic term, the student's standing is in the "D" or lower range.
Due to its limited social scene, the students are often stress and depressed, thereby affecting their overall grades at tech. This issue is compounded by the fact that Georgia Tech is already a very hard engineering school to start with. Georgia Tech has been a wonderful experience overall.
Undergraduate students may repeat for grade substitution up to two GT courses with posted letter grades of D or F. These courses will be excluded from calculation of their cumulative grade point average. A course can be taken for grade substitution only once and must be repeated within one calendar year.

Georgia Tech changed from the quarter to the semester system in August of 1999. There are three terms offered each calendar year: Fall, Spring, and an abbreviated Summer Term.
The policy that was effective Summer 2005 through Spring 2019 was a freshman grade substitution policy that applied only to students admitted as freshmen. It allowed them to repeat within their first four terms up to two courses in which they had earned grades of D or F in their freshman year and have only the most current grade included in their GPA. The full policy is in the 2018-2019 Catalog. What is different about the new policy is that grade substitution is now open to all students.
It takes effect starting with the Summer 2019 term under the 2019-2020 Catalog.
No, if a student has already used grade substitutions under the previous policy, they will count towards the maximum number under the new policy. The new policy allows all students to use grade substitution for up to two classes. So if a student already used two grade substitutions under the old policy, the student cannot request further grade substitutions.
No, the policy is not retroactive. The D or F grade to be retaken must have been earned in a course taken during or after the Summer 2019 session. The new policy does not apply to courses taken prior to Summer 2019.
In addition to the Fall and Spring Terms, Georgia Tech offers an abbreviated Summer Term. The summer class periods are adjusted to accommodate the 750 minutes of class time required to equal 1 semester credit hour.

The original grade and the repeated grades will all appear on the official transcript. Once a grade substitution is applied to a course, the credit hours attempted and earned on the course will be removed from the calculation of the cumulative grade point.
Today as I begrudgingly let you students walk to your class while I had to wait like 5 minutes just to go ahead with my golf cart, I saw what was equivalent to the start of spring. The look of wide eyes and bushy tails together with the damn hot sun beating down on us all made me slightly happy to see the students back.
Clearly Tech Dining is still partially in the works, as well as some other spaces on campus. Just a reminder that like everywhere else in the country, there are staffing shortages.
Taking them pass/fail means you can concentrate on your classes that actually matter instead of memorizing worthless elective garbage.
That completely depends on the degree, if it allows for pass/fail classes. The downside is that it doesn't contribute to your GPA, meaning if it's an easy class, it won't be a GPA booster.
