For many athletes in the sample, the earnings or “wage” they receive is just the stipend from USA Gymnastics. For others, earnings will be the sum of the stipend and their payments from winning a medal at the Olympics or the World Championships.

On November 5, 2018, the USOC announced that it was starting the process to decertify USAG as the national governing body for gymnastics in the United States. One month later, USA Gymnastics filed for bankruptcy.
