Before getting started:
Learn to read blueprints online. In addition to providing access to classes and instructional videos, the Internet also offers a number of Web sites with information on reading blueprints. Although you won't receive any formal certification, all the resources you need to learn complex blueprint reading is available online.
Blueprint reading is not terribly difficult but it does require practice and some basic knowledge of blueprints. This online blueprint reading course is designed to provide you with that foundation knowledge and enough practice at reading blueprints to get you started.

A quick way to begin understanding blueprints is to get familiar with its lines. Lines represent walls, door frames, appliance exteriors, dimensions, ranges of motion, etc. Depending on their thickness, whether they are straight or curved, dashed or solid, lines signify different schematic purposes in a drawing.

A Blueprint Class, often shortened as Blueprint, is an asset that allows content creators to easily add functionality on top of existing gameplay classes. Blueprints are created inside of Unreal Editor visually, instead of by typing code, and saved as assets in a content package.

Please click here to see the online course schedule. Online courses begin every three weeks, on a Friday and are 18-days long.
Students will receive a detailed syllabus once they are enrolled in the course.
There are two discussion forums for the course, the Student Forum and the Graded Forum.
These will be part of your final grade. Your initial discussion post is due Monday, one week from the beginning of class, by 11:55pm Pacific Time. Your second discussion post must be a response to another student, and it is due by the end of the course.
State of California Approval - Our individual courses, training bundles and technology certificate programs are approved by the State of California's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) for both online and onsite learning.
1. Read the title block. These often appear at the beginning of any blueprints. If you are involved in any serious construction work, you will want to make sure to read it all thoroughly. The title block's first section lists the blueprint's name, number, as well as the location, site, or vendor.
Read the notes and legend. In addition to the standard scale, grid, and lines, blueprints are often comprised of other symbols and numbers. In order to fully comprehend the specific blueprint you're working with, be sure to learn those symbols by reading through the legend. The notes will reveal any specifications or information the designer thinks will aid in understanding the drawing.
Blueprints are 2-dimensional architectural design drawings that indicate the size of a planned building, the materials to be used in its construction, and the placement of its features. Learning to read blueprints is essential not only for construction workers but also for the people who hire architects to draft them.
Read the dimension lines. Dimension lines show you the distance between any two locations in a drawing. Whether that be walls in a house, or the space between wiring in an electrical outlet. They are drawn as short, solid lines, with arrowheads on each end. The line's center point is broken, and here you will see the dimension (i.e. 3.5, 1.8, etc.)
The second section comprises bureaucratic information. Approval dates and signatures are located here. If you find a blueprint that interests you and want to know more, this information can be invaluable.
Determine the view. With 2D blueprints, there are three common perspectives: plan, elevation, and section . Understanding which one of these is being employed is an important first step to reading any drawing.
Find the phantom lines. Phantom lines are used to illustrate different positions of an object. For example think of a switch in the off position. Phantom lines could be used to represent its possible appearance in the on position. On blueprints you will see them drawn with one long and two short dashes, with another long dash on the end - all evenly spaced.

Structural drawings show how the design for a building can maintain the structural integrity of the home in normal and hazardous weather conditions. Jordan shows you how to understand the key components of a house's structure from the perspective of a builder and an engineer.
Students can take Copeland courses from anywhere in the world. Our courses are online, so if you have access to the Internet, you can watch our training videos. Courses are taught in English, with English captions and Spanish subtitles available.
Designed for those new to reading construction documents, the “How to Read Construction Plans” class offers 8 Hours Self-Directed Study with Live Instructor Support.
The main objective is to teach you the basic concepts necessary for professional 2D drawing reading.
I want to thank you again for the training session you’ve given. I am excited about the new changes this is going to make in my career, the impact on my work ethics, efficiency, and environment.
You need blueprints to estimate the cost of labor and the bill of materials, to create a construction schedule, and to obtain building permits. A set of blueprints must show that your building design is in compliance with your local building codes, or the building inspection department won't approve your permit to begin construction.
A blueprint is a two-dimensional set of drawings that provides a detailed visual representation of how an architect wants a building to look. Blueprints typically specify a building's dimensions, construction materials, and the exact placement of all its components. The word "blueprint" originated in the mid-nineteenth century when engineering ...
Hidden lines consist of short dashes that the architect draws at half the thickness of object lines. Center line: This type of line indicates the central axis of an element. Center lines consist of alternating short and long dashes that the architect draws with the same thickness as hidden lines.
Visible lines are completely solid and are the thickest type of line. Hidden line: Also known as invisible lines, hidden lines show object surfaces that are not visible when looking at the object in person. Hidden lines consist of short dashes that the architect draws at half the thickness of object lines.
Plan view drawing: A plan view is a drawing on a horizontal plane depicting a bird's eye view of a structure from above. Each floor in the building has its own plan view drawing.
Break line: Architects use break lines to shorten the view of long uniform sections of an object in order to conserve drawing space. Short break lines are thick, solid freehand wavy lines, while long break lines are thin, solid ruler-drawn lines with interspersed freehand zig-zags.
This course has been extremely helpful in understanding how to read blueprints. Having the book blueprints to use for the coursework helped me tremendously, especially considering there were several different plans to look at. The board discussions have also given a lot of insight on other’s real life experiences in the field.
Grades will be posted on a weekly basis. You will have full access to your grade sheet so you will be able to keep track of how you are doing at all times.
The book comes with a set of blueprints we will use in class but some students have reported the book being sold at a discount without the blueprints.
