If your school or institution would like to purchase BYU Independent Study courses for your students, you may apply for our Purchase Order Program. Once an account is established, your school or institution will be billed on a monthly basis for your students’ tuition and retake fees as well as any withdrawal or extension fees.
Course Duration If additional time is needed, a 3-month extension may be purchased for a fee of $20 before the course expires. If the course has expired, please call Customer Support to discuss options. You may purchase one course extension per course, but once the extensions is over, no additional time is permitted.
Students have 12 months to complete a course. Because a majority of BYU Independent Study courses are asynchronous, the speed with which a student moves through the material is entirely dependent upon the student's ability to master the content.
Current and Prospective Students. All students—whether they are enrolled in an undergraduate school or not—can take BYU Independent Study courses and earn transferable credits anytime and anywhere.
One course, one curriculum, same flexibility Our courses don't require scheduled lectures or live class times, but students do benefit from teacher contact and office hours along with all the other benefits of our traditional self-paced, flexible online courses.
Students can register for an Independent Study course at any time during the year and have up to one year to complete most courses, although most courses are based on a semester's worth of credit.
BYU Independent Study's Teacher-Led courses are a blend of live and student-paced instruction (both synchronous and asynchronous). These courses have a foundation that offers all the benefits of virtual learning provided by our online courses.

BYU Independent Study's university program is accredited by NWCCU. BYU Independent Study's Secondary Educational Program is accredited by two regional accreditation agencies, Cognia and Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools.
Refunds/vouchers are granted if you withdraw within the following timeframes: Between 0–14 calendar days after the registration date, a full refund is granted, with no withdrawal fee. Between 15–60 calendar days after the registration date, a refund is granted, minus the $30 per course withdrawal fee.

BYU is a hard school. The majors are competitive, the pre-requisite classes are hard and are usually very large. Two of the hardest classes I have taken was first: Math 113 which is second semester calculus. One take that class if you have a really good foundation of calculus.

Access your course through our website using your BYU Net ID (username) and password. If you you don't have a Net ID, select My Account and then Create Account. Become familiar with the course policies and deadlines outlined on our website and any unique policies and requirements listed in your course syllabus.
Deadlines: BYU Independent Study requires that all coursework and exams be completed three weeks before any and all deadlines that require course completion. Examples of these deadlines are graduation deadlines, employment application deadlines, and graduate school application deadlines.
All courses offer a 90-day extension option for $20 that can be purchased once. All final exams (and coursework) must be completed before course expiration. Course extensions must be processed before the course expiration date.
You may not resubmit assignments (instructor-graded or computer-graded).
Unless there is a noted exception in your course syllabus, you must pass the final exam in order to receive course credit. Therefore, if necessary, you may contact Independent Study to request one retake of the final exam for a fee of $15.
