The UNT Libraries holds and distributes materials for instructors as required or recommended reading for their courses. These materials are placed at a service desk within the libraries or are made available online and can include books, articles, chapters of books, sample tests, videos, CDs, and DVDs.
Course reserves are divided among library service desks based on the course subject.
The week before and the first week of Fall and Spring semesters are busy times. To ensure that materials are available for students when needed, at the start of each semester allow one week for library staff to process materials for reserves. At other times, please allow 2 working days.
All reserves materials are removed at the end of every semester. Library material is returned to the circulating collection.
Submit all audio streaming reserve requests using the Reserves Request Form and select "3rd Floor - Music Library & Sound Recording Archives" for the location. We will need a course roster in order to give access to the students in the appropriate section.
To put an item on reserve, complete the online reservation form. Note that we cannot place items from other libraries on reserve.
We can recall items that are checked out to make sure they're available for your students. Requests that include materials that are checked out may take longer to fill. If something is missing or damaged, we can order a replacement copy. To make a request for purchase, please contact Head Librarian, Colleen Boff.
The Music Library provides access to sound and video recording reserves on and off campus through Avalon, our audio and video streaming platform. All audio reserve requests from our physical collections will be placed on the streaming server, unless you are using a published anthology (which will only be available as a traditional reserve in the Music Library and Bill Schurk Sound Archives because of copyright limitations). Submit all of your reserve requests as you ordinarily would and send us a list of your course roster so that we can enroll the students in their appropriate section. We'll also enroll you as a student so that you can see the reserve system as they will.
If you have any questions about the process at any point, please contact course reserves at 419-372-7908 or [email protected]. We can answer questions or help you make arrangements for special situations.
BGSU faculty may request that copies of materials from either their personal collection or the CRC collection be put on Reserve at the CRC Information and Lending desk located on the 2nd floor of Jerome Library. This will enable students enrolled in their courses to access these materials for a selected loan period listed below.
Once a student returns a reserve item, there is a 24 hour waiting period before that student can borrow the same reserve item again. This allows for other patrons to have a chance to use the material. The only exception is if there are two copies of an item.
Log into Canvas and select " Course Reserves " from the navigation pane on the left side of the webpage.
The "Course Reserves" link in Canvas is the gateway to all materials on reserve.
Under certain conditions specified in the law, library and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than in private study, scholarship, or research.”.
Yale University Library can provide access to course readings by utilizing the Course Reserves service through Canvas. Items can be placed on Physical Reserve within the library (books, DVDs, etc.), or scans of library materials can be placed online for ease of access (eReserve). If the library does not already have the materials needed for a course reserve request, we can try to purchase them for the library’s collection or faculty can bring in their own copy to place on Reserve. Students can access Reserves materials any time the library is open or 24/7 via eReserve.
