Log in to Google Drive

One improvement that comes along with My Maps is how Google compiles everything under their cloud-based storage platform -- Drive. It's now very easy to keep various maps and documents all organized under one trip folder. Visit https://www.google.com/drive/ to get started. You will be prompted to sign into your Google account.

Create a New Map

You will now be brought to the main My Maps interface. On the left side is the map control panel, use this to organize your layers and toggle on/off visible information. The upper left is home to the search bar, and just below it is a set of buttons used to add information markers to the map.

Great! Now Lets Enter Your Home Location

First, add your starting and ending locations. In our case we will begin from our base in Burbank, CA and end there as well. In the Search Bar enter your starting address and hit Enter.

Add Your Destinations

Use the same process of searching for a location, selecting the pin, and saving to your map for each of your other destinations. Let's go through it once more.

Determine A Route

At this point you should have all your destinations added as Markers, along with your starting and ending locations. Resulting in a map that looks something like this.

Make Route Adjustments

You now have a basic itinerary, including driving directions, destinations, mileage, driving times, and an overall map.

Additional Details

Google My Maps allows you to have 10 layers total (an improvement on Maps Engine), currently I'm using one for driving directions and one for location markers. Additional layers can be used for more driving directions and amenities.

Step 1: Start from Scratch

When you draw, design, or pick out your basic map background, make sure it’s not already filled with numbers and words. That might clutter your infographic.

Step 2: Get To Know Your Tools

There are a couple tools in the BeFunky online Photo Editor suite that are imperative to designing your road map infographic. Not only will they make your creative process much simpler, but they'll also make it a lot speedier, too.

Step 3: Fill Your Map Out

Before you really get into creating your road map, you have to ask yourself what exactly you want to emphasize from your trip. I wanted to do two things with my infographic: 1) illustrate all my favorite stops across the country, and 2) plot out my route across the USA.

Apple Maps will let you in on a lot of transit information like schedules and directions transits will take to make sure that you catch that bus on time. If some transportation modes don’t support your location, Apple Maps will link you to other apps to assist you.

2. Multiple Devices

Like all other Apple-made apps, you can use Apple Maps across all your Apple devices. Even if you plan your route on your Mac, you can also access it on your iPad or iPhone.

3. Landmarks

Apple maps will show you search points of interest like famous coffee shops, hotels, restaurants, and more. You can save these locations if you want to check them out later.

4. Siri Integration

This is a unique feature of Apple Maps because it is, by far, the only map that can be integrated with your device’s Siri.

5. Thorough Navigation

Apple maps have gone through so many developments. The app can now show you various road waypoints, road alternatives, 3D cities and building views, address details, and even excellent audio instruction. Those are only some of the things it offers to improve your navigation experience!

Configure your default route planner settings

You can fully adjust your Apple Maps settings for particular trips. Open the app and click Maps > Preferences. After that, you can now choose the transport type and check the default options for driving, cycling, or transit.

Create a route

You may use the Search box to identify your destination’s location, or you can choose from your guides or favorites. Once it is displayed on the map, you can click on it to show the details of the location. After that, click Create Route From Here and then type the destination name in the To box. There will be suggestions you can choose from.

Get a specialized route app

These are designed for delivery people more than they are for tourists or just individuals with a complicated route. That means both that this type of specialized app is always barebones in terms of mapping detail, and also that you may need a company subscription.

Apple Maps lets you create guides

Apple Maps on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, lets you set up your own, personalized tour guide. Collect together every location you want or need to visit, and then have them all available throughout your trip.
