One final exam is required for classroom courses and two are required for distance education courses. Each exam must consist of 16 questions and the questions must be different in each exam. TREC has developed an inspector non-elective CE course application checklist as a resource for CE providers.
Elective CE courses are courses that license holders can take to fulfill the elective hours needed to renew a license. The subject matter and content for elective CE courses must be relevant to activities for which a real estate or inspector license is required.
A timed course outline that includes course topics; assignments and activities, if applicable; topic or unit quizzes, if applicable; and the amount of time dedicated for each item must be included with each course application.
Non-elective CE courses are designed for interactive classroom delivery. CE providers need to demonstrate methods to engage students in interactive discussions and activities to meet course objectives and time requirements.
The subject matter and content for the Inspector Legal & Ethics and SOP Review course is specifically mandated and provided by TREC. An approved CE provider can request approval to offer this course by completing the Inspector Non-Elective CE Course Application and paying the required fee. Final exams have been promulgated by TREC for this course. Student course manual is provided below and providers may request a copy of the course instructor manual from TREC by email.
TREC Core Course is a mandatory Course to renew your license.
Education Providers have (10) working days to submit your education roster.
You must complete 12 continuing education credit hours. Two hours must be completed in Ethics Topic Area. One hour must be completed in the Fair Housing Topic Area. Six hours must be completed in Core Topic Area. The six remaining hours may be completed in core or elective topics.

A distance education course is complete after the course sponsor scores the required examination to ensure the licensee achieved a grade of 85% or better and a course certificate with the completion date included has been issued. A new core course is usually offered for at least six months before it becomes the mandatory core course. During the six month period, licensees may complete either the current core course or the new course. Contact the Commission if you need to verify the name of the current core course.
