The tests assess student proficiency in key subjects. All students in North Carolina take End-of-Grade reading and math tests every year in grades 3-8. The scores are only one of many indicators of how well your child is doing in school. They give you a chance to compare your child’s performance with that of other students in the same grade at the school and with other students across North Carolina.
The report provides you a summary of your child’s score on one of the EOG, EOC or NCEXTEND1 tests. Your child’s performance is reflected in up to four data elements. These elements are:

A Lexile level is assigned to most books and is generally listed on the back cover. Lexile levels are also provided as a part of this report for each student taking the ELA/Reading assessment. These scores provide you with an indication of the level of books your child should be able to read comfortably.

PLTW EoC scores are derived through the process of standard setting, which sets the cut scores for a test.
If PLTW EoC scores are used for purposes other than the appropriate uses listed in Section 1, it is the user’s responsibility to validate the use of the EoC scores for that purpose.
Specifically, the ALDs describe the technical skills and knowledge covered in the curriculum and on the EoC Assessment. ALDs complement curriculum materials and can be used by teachers and students to better understand student performance and expectations. Teachers can also use ALDs to understand how their students performed on the EoC Assessment.
PLTW EoC score interpretations are criterion-referenced, which means that you can interpret a student’s EoC score to be a reflection of his or her understanding of the curriculum content standards. Criterion-referenced interpretation is not to be confused with a system that measures learning relative to the performance of other students, such as percentile ranks. To the contrary, each school year, there is no limit to the number of students who can receive any particular score on a PLTW EoC Assessment.
How Is the HSPT Scored? The HSPT results are determined by the number of questions you answered correctly. Test takers are not penalized for wrong answers. Since this is the case, it is always in your best interest to answer every question even if you are unsure of the answer.
The CSQ score is determined by the test taker's age and performance on the test. The CSQ scores have a range of 55 to 145, with an average score around 100.
Math Test – The math test will measure how well you answer general math problems along with applications of math principles. Language Test – The language portion of the HSPT assesses your knowledge of grammar and mechanics, including spelling and punctuation.
There are five main sections on the HSPT. Test takers will be assessed on verbal skills, quantitative skills (number sense and geometry), reading, math and language. Questions are multiple choice with three or four answer choices.
The test measures content-specific areas as well as cognitive ability. The HSPT is a comprehensive exam, which is why it is so widely used. Additionally, the results of the exam are standardized, which means it is a reliable indicator for appropriate placement of freshmen entering high school.
Be prepared to answer close to 300 of them. However, you will need to do so in a very short amount of time. Test takers are allotted 150 minutes to complete the test. There are five main sections on the HSPT.
While your raw score is a summary of the correct answers, it is converted to the scaled score, which is a range between 200 and 800. An excellent HSPT score is 800. It is important to understand all of your HSPT results.
One way to gather feedback from students is through end-of-semester evaluations. At IU Bloomington, most courses are evaluated using the Online Course Questionnaire (OCQ), which is an online system administered by Bloomington Evaluation Services and Testing (BEST). All students receive an email at the end of the semester, inviting them to complete the OCQ for each course they are enrolled in. After the semester is over and grades have been posted, results are made available to faculty through the OCQ Portal.
To interpret the responses to the open-ended questions, follow these steps: 1 Read all the responses to get a sense of the range of answers. 2 Discard the comments that are useless for your teaching: those that address irrelevant or personal matters, those that offer nothing specific that you can act on, etc. 3 Sort the remaining responses into categories based on content. For example, you might identify a number of response talking about the pace of the course, another group focusing on the organization, yet another on the exams, and so on. On a hard copy of your OCQ report, you can highlight all the comments in a category with a certain highlighter color; this will give you a way to visually gauge the number of comments in each category. 4 Determine a general trend for each category you’ve identified. What do the majority of comments say? Are they mostly positive or mostly negative? 5 #N#Look for consistencies (or inconsistencies) between the comments and the numerical results. Based on this analysis, choose a few issues to address when you teach the course next, or in your teaching in general. Make an action plan for these issues.
