Copy/Import a Canvas Course
You can copy all the content or select individual items from the other courses you teach. On the Course Content page, select the plus sign to open the menu and select Copy Content. Or, open the menu on the right side above the content list. Select Copy Content.

Importing IMS Common Cartridge Into Blackboard Learn The cartridge is imported into an existing course, so create one if needed. From within a course, from the course Course Management menu, choose Import Package / View Logs. This menu will bring up an Import page. Click on the Import Package button.
Open Blackboard and go to the new course that will needs the imported course material. Go to Control Panel. Open Packages and Utilities. On the Import Package / View Logs screen, click the Import Package button.
In Section 1, under Select Data to Download, click the radio button "User Information Only." Click Submit. The data has been saved. Click the Download button.
Open the course's menu and select Export/Archive. The Export/Archive Course page lists all export or archive packages for this course that haven't been deleted from Blackboard Learn, even if you have already downloaded the package. The file names include the date and time the package was created.
If this course ID already exists in the database, Blackboard Learn adds the material from the imported course to the existing course. If this course ID doesn't exist in the database, Blackboard Learn creates a new course with this ID.
If the imported sections of the course include links to materials that you don't import into the destination course, the links will break in the destination course. For example, if a course area links to a test but you don't import the assessments, the link to the test will break. After importing, edit the destination course to update or remove any broken links.
The Blackboard Learn packaging format follows the IMS Content Packaging Specification, with extensions to support content types that are specific to Blackboard Learn.
Don't unzip or extract a course or archive package. Don't remove files from the package or try to import a file contained with the package. You can only import or restore the course if the package is intact. Editing the ZIP file and then importing or restoring the package results in unstable and unpredictable behavior in the course.
You can import course packages back into Blackboard Learn to create a new course with the same content. Exporting a course includes only the course content. 4d. Note that if you copy Settings, and the source course is Available, the new course will be set to Available. If you choose Settings and you want the new course to remain unavailable, be sure to switch it back off after the copy is complete (Main tab – click on the green “O” next to the course).
Voicethread links will need to be clicked to reassociate them with the actions in Voicethread and with your new course. You may want to make copies of your existing Voicethreads prior to this in order to link the new versions in your new course. Be sure to only include your own comments so to protect the privacy of your previous students.
If you use Panopto streaming media in your course and want last semester’s videos available in the current course, there are a couple of additional steps.You will need to commission the new course in order to give access to this semester’s course users. See instructions.
If you use Panopto dropbox for student submssion of media, you will need to retain both the current and the past folders, as in Example 1. If you provide access to your Panopto content as in Example 2, the list of available videos will look a bit less user-friendly, but still works.
Blackboard will confirm your request and send you an email when the export file is complete.
The copy or import processes do not impact the availability of reserves items at the library or the display of library resources on the Course Reserves list in the library catalog. You will need to contact rclreserves@library.rochester.edu in order to reactivate physical reserves lists and make them available in the library.
For zoom and Yellowdig, it is easiest to delete the links and recreate them.
Note Course templates, courses with student enrollments, and courses that are already linked to an LMS can't be linked.

If you have a .zip archive of either a Blackboard or Moodle course, you can import that from the Import Existing Content page.
When the process finishes, the questions will be imported into a new question bank in the course that use the same name as the quiz. Only the questions are imported, not any settings from the previous LMS such as due dates, time limit, etc. To use the imported questions, create a new quiz and add the questions to it.
When importing a Blackboard course export package into a blank Canvas shell, you can expect the following results. Please note that Canvas is continually updating the Blackboard import process, and some of the issues reported below might not be present at the time of your conversion.
To import all content from the course, click the All Content button [1] . If you want to select specific content, click the Select specific content button [2]. Note: If you select the specific content option, you are required to select the content you want to import after you review the remaining page options.
Some systems recycle their IDs for each new export. Therefore, if you export two separate question banks they will have the same IDs. To prevent losing assessment data Canvas treats the question banks as separate objects despite the IDs. Choosing this option will disable this safety feature and allow assessment data to overwrite existing data with the same IDs.
You can import prior content from Blackboard 6/7/8/9 exports into Canvas.
