In 1898, Dallas Baptist University (DBU) was established in the town of Decatur as Decatur Baptis t College. It was the first two-year junior college in Texas. The college relocated to Dallas in 1965 and became Dallas Baptist College. In 1968, it became a senior college and started offering four-year degrees in 1970. It officially received its present name in 1985. Currently, the university holds the recognition of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). It consists of seven colleges and two schools. It holds the affiliation of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Also, various programs offered by the university are accredited by relevant professional bodies.
