How many questions is the PAL test?

50 questionsThe written exam is made up of 50 questions all of which are “true or false” or “multiple-choice”. The practical examination consists of a series of actions that you will be asked to perform with various restricted firearms in order to demonstrate that you are proficient in the safe handling of firearms.

Can you challenge the PAL test?

No. There used to be an option to “challenge” the written and practical exams. However, this option was removed in 2015 when Bill C42 was passed. This legislation removed new PAL applicants' ability to “challenge” either the CFSC or the CRFSC exams without attending the CFSC or CRFSC course.

What is the PAL test like?

Both exams have a written, multiple choice test and a practical session in which you have to demonstrate safe handling of several firearms in different scenarios. There are 50 questions on the written portion: two thirds are true/false with the rest being multiple choice. You have to get 80% to pass.

No, your CFSC/CRFSC certificates are good forever. Theoretically you may even lose your safety training certificate, RCMP will still have that in their records. But you will have to use 5592 form instead of 5614.
