With each successful completion of a SCPD graduate course, you earn Stanford University credit that may later be applied toward a relevant graduate degree. Up to 18 units of graduate credit can be transferred to an applicable graduate degree with academic department approval.
These courses are for professional development credit only. VirtualSC PD courses do not count towards any type of degree. If you have taken a graduate level course through VirtualSC PD after June 1, 2009, and need proof of completion, you will need to request your official transcript from The College of Charleston.
Students must know that the professional LOR must be stated on the letterhead. It focuses on determining the candidate’s ability to work in diverse environments and teamwork and cites their exposure to the domain.

1. Academic LOR. A letter of recommendation provided by a faculty member of your previous institute. Usually, universities ask you to provide two or three LORs from your previous institute (this could be your teachers from your schools in case of undergraduate courses and professors from your college in case you are applying for masters' programs). ...
For MBA students, LORs should be purely professional, especially, if they have an experience of three years or more . For MBA and PhD aspirants who have recently graduated from college, they can ask for recommendation letters from their college professors or projects guides.
Most of the universities require this letter to be on the official letterhead. For an Academic LOR - the university's letterhead is required and for a Professional LOR - the letterhead of the company. One thing important to remember in the latter case is that the letterhead should be of the company the recommender is working in.
An important point to be kept in mind is that a LOR is not a repetition of an SOP. An ideal LOR is supposed to demonstrate aspects/perspectives of your personality not mentioned in your SOP or resume.
A letter of recommendation is a document to verify your skills, character traits, and attitude for the desired program (or maybe a job role). It can also help you gain financial aid or employment as a teacher’s assistant or research assistant at your graduate school.
Recommendations add credibility to applications, whether academic or non-academic. Universities use recommendations as a validation (by a 3 rd party) on your academic potential, technical aptitude, character, intelligence, personality, and dedication. Like SoP (and essays), LoRs can also make or break an application.
Several applicants ask us this single question – whome to choose as my referee or recommender.
A recommendation letter is a formal letter, so it is not the kind of document to get creative with. Your recommender should respect the following structure:
As an SCPD graduate student, you will have access to the Terman Engineering, Green, Lathrop, and Lane Libraries at Stanford University (The Lane Medical Library focuses on topics relevant to the Medical School and related fields such as biology or biochemistry.) You will need to show your official enrollment receipt and valid personal identification (such as a driver’s license) to gain access. You may use resources in the libraries, but may not check out books to take home. You also have access to online library resources, such as journals.
This handbook is intended to support you as an entering and continuing SCPD student. It is a reference guide to requirements, programs, policies, and procedures of SCPD. It does not constitute a complete or definitive statement of the policies of Stanford University.
In order to receive department approval, you will need to enroll in a course via Stanford Online during an open enrollment period. To enroll, add your desired course to the cart, continue to checkout and enter payment information. If your application is declined for any reason, your payment will be reimbursed.
In order to enroll in your first graduate course for credit, whether individually or as part of a certificate program, you must complete an online application, enroll in and pay for a course, and receive department approval. Enrollments are approved by the academic department on a course-by-course, quarter-by-quarter basis.
Each class will have its own policy regarding late submission of assignments. The policy for each class is under the discretion of the instructor who holds final authority for all grading decisions. Late assignments may be assigned a grade reduced in proportion to the tardiness of the submission. Some instructors may have a strict policy of not accepting late assignments at all. If you experience any trouble submitting course materials, you should notify your course instructor and the teaching assistant.
Most SCPD graduate courses may not be repeated for credit. The few graduate courses that may be repeated for credit will be noted in the Stanford Bulletin. Under the general University grading system, when a course which may not be repeated for credit is retaken, the following special rules apply:

VirtualSC PD does not not mail hard copies of official documents, so please make sure you provide us with your email address. We also do not resend your official transcripts for graduate courses. For replacement transcripts, please re-order them from The College of Charleston. Educator Services.
A brief and well-written introduction should state the relationship you are having with the LOR writer. An overview of the applicant’s strengths, qualities and experiences. A summary of the applicant’s journey in the organisation. A closing paragraph where the writer must recommend the applicant to the university.
A Professional LOR is an important document, especially for a master or any other PG program admission. Such letters can be provided by your seniors such as supervisors, managers, heads, etc. or colleagues. Students must know that the professional LOR must be stated on the letterhead.

Ralph Briones, [email protected], is SCPD's Production Coordinator and is responsible for scheduling problem/review sessions and tape aheads in the SCPD rooms. Due to the increase in academic online course offerings, SCPD has very limited availability in the SCPD rooms. As another alternative, SCPD does provide a web-hosted problem session option. Web-hosted sessions could be held in any non-SCPD room, at any time, and are captured using a tablet PC which SCPD would provide. The captured sessions are then uploaded to the SCPD site for other students to view. These resources are explained at the quarterly SCPD Faculty/TA Orientations.
