myCNM Need Help Signing In? Dropping or withdrawing from classes can affect your financial aid. If you drop a class or classes prior to their census date, (found in the front of each semester’s schedule of classes) you will have to repay the aid you received for the course (s) in addition to any other charges you incur, such as bookstore charges.
Dropping Courses You may drop your class according to the Registration Deadlines for the term. If you drop your class on or before the Last Day for Refund of that part of term, the course will not appear on your CNM transcript. After that date, a withdrawal grade (W) will appear on your record for classes dropped.
Dropping a class with financial aid won't necessarily affect your FAFSA and financial aid award. If you're taking extra classes, for instance, you could probably afford to remove one from your schedule.

Federal regulations require you to repay a portion of financial aid funds if you withdraw from all classes before satisfying the 60 percent completion rule for the enrollment term. (See the current 60 percent dates for the financial aid award year.)
Failing & Then Re-Taking a Class Croskey notes that dropping a class is better than withdrawing, but withdrawing is better than failing. “A failing grade will lower the student's GPA, which may prevent a student from participating in a particular major that has a GPA requirement,” Croskey says.
Essentially, it means unenrolling in a course by a certain deadline date. Most colleges will give you specific deadlines to both add and drop classes. When you drop a class before the drop deadline, it's as if it never happened.
Once you have dropped a class, you no longer have to attend it, and you will no longer receive a grade in that course. Instead, there will usually be a "W" (for "Withdrawn") next to the course's name, instead of a letter grade, on your transcript. This "W" will not affect your GPA.
After the “drop/add” period, a student may still have the option to Withdraw. Withdrawal usually means the course remains on the transcript with a “W” as a grade. It does not affect the student's GPA (grade point average).
Course withdrawal may affect your financial aid eligibility and may drop you below your satisfactory academic progress requirement. Courses that you have withdrawn from still count towards your Attempted Units, which may impact your Unit Cap.
F - Failure: zero points per credit hour. CR - Credit: grade is equivalent of at least a grade of C, but is not computed in the GPA. NC - No Credit: grade is not computed in the GPA. PR - In Progress: course work not completed; grade is not computed in the GPA.
All prerequisites and corequisites are listed in the course descriptions that can be found in the CNM Catalog. There are five ways to meet a course prerequisite requirement: Enroll in the prerequisite course at CNM. Complete it with a passing grade of "C" or higher.

Students may, with departmental approval, step-up or step-back into 1) most developmental courses numbered 0999 and below through the second week of the term and into 2) some lower level career and technical courses (in the same discipline) through the fifth week of the term.

Students dropped from courses that have co-requisites also must drop the co-requisite courses. Students should not expect instructors to drop them if they stop attending classes. Note: Individuals cannot sit in on or participate in classes for which they are not officially enrolled.
Instructors may drop students with excessive absences from courses.
Sophomore: A student who has completed 30 or more credits at CNM. Part-time: A student enrolled in fewer than 12 credit hours per term. Full-time: A student enrolled in 12 or more credit hours per term.
If you drop your class after the census date (otherwise known as a withdrawal), the class and a grade of "W" will show up on your transcript.
This educational option can be completed: Part-time or full-time. Full-time students can complete the program in one term.

There are no program placement requirements for CNM Online College. Classes are guaranteed and you'll complete an associate degree in 17 months.
CNM Online College is a 100% online degree and certificate program. The fee for each program includes tuition, textbooks, and course materials, as well as access to online library resources and coaching. Courses from other accredited institutions can be transferred and used to earn your degree or certificate.

Note: Both Flex and Guided have a week-long break between first seven-week term and second seven-week term from February 28-March 6, 2022.
