Enabling self-enrollment give instructors the ability to allow students to use a join code or click a button to enroll themselves in a course. By default, self-enrollment is disabled for the account. Once this feature is enabled, instructors can enable self-enrollment in Course Settings.
Test Student data that involves interactions with other students are retained even if the test student is removed from section enrollments. Attendance, conferences, conversations inbox, collaborations, differentiated assignments, external apps, groups, peer reviews, and profiles do not work for the Test Student.
View Course. You can now view the course as a student user would see it. For example, students cannot see the Settings navigation link like instructors can. You will know if you are in Student View because of the persistent box on the bottom of the screen indicating you are logged into Student View.

Students can only participate in the course between these dates: Instructors may opt to automatically set their course to a read-only state when students are accessing the course outside of the course start and end dates.
Instructors can enable self-enrollment that allows students to enroll themselves in your Canvas course site. This does not affect registration in Rutgers student information systems such as Banner or REGIS. Instructors and academic programs may benefit by including a self-enrollable course in the Public Course Index.
These restrictions include student access to courses before or after the term or course participation dates. By default, course participation dates are limited to term dates.
However, when the student restriction for the course participation start date is enabled, students cannot view a link to the course until the start date, even if the course is published.
By default, student access checkboxes are not selected, meaning students can view a link to any enrolled future course (after they accept their course invitation) or a concluded course. To retain this default for the entire institution, do not select any checkboxes.
However, when the student restriction for the course end date is enabled, students can no longer view the course in the Courses list after the course has concluded.
When you restrict students from accessing courses before the start date, you can also restrict students from viewing future courses in the Enrollments list. If you don't want students to see they have been enrolled in a future course, select the Restrict students from viewing future courses in enrollments list checkbox [1].
A link may be hidden to students because the feature area has no content [2] or because the link is disabled [3].
Place Before or After. If you selected the Before or After option, click the second drop-down menu [1]. Select the navigation link that should be before or after the link you are moving, as indicated by the option selected in the previous menu [2].
There are two types of users in Canvas: Account-level users and Course-level users. Course roles are roles with permissions that allow a user course-level access. Usually users with these roles cannot see more than what is in their Canvas courses. Your individual school may have a specialized role that may be available in courses for your school.
Permissions: The student role has permissions to view course content and engage in course activities, including the ability to submit assignments , participate in discussions , and view the course roster. Limitations: Students cannot view or modify settings for a course.
Facilitator. Primary use: Section Instructor. This a non-editing role intended for programs that provide complete course content for an instructor. Permissions: Facilitators can view submitted student work, and enter grades and comments.
Primary use: For instructional designers/technologists (and staff with similar responsibilities) who write and manage course content, but do not actually teach courses or grade student work. Permissions: Create course content, discussions, announcements, assignments, quizzes, and other content features.
Facilitators cannot add Teachers or TAs to the course, but can add students. Primary use: For faculty or staff requesting to observe a course as part of a peer review of teaching. Permissions: Peer Reviewers have access to view course content, instructor feedback, and student grades.
Limitations: Peer Reviewers cannot edit any content and cannot participate in course activities. Additionally Peer Reviewers cannot add other user to the course. Primary use: For users who have no official role in the course, but have been given permission to view course content and discussion forums.
