Students can drop a class through their schedule in Wolverine Access until the drop/add deadline determined by the University Academic Calendar on the University's Office of the Registrar website. In order to drop a class after the ninth week, you must petition the Academic Standards Board. Exceptions to the Late Drop Deadline are considered if there is a serious, documented, non-academic issue or event that occurs after the deadline, and you were passing the class up to that point.
After the last day of classes, you cannot withdraw except by successful petition to the Academic Standards Board. Retroactive withdrawals are rare exceptions and are only granted in extraordinary circumstances. To be eligible to petition, you must have documentation of non-academic factors that prevented you from finishing classes and prevented you from requesting the withdrawal before the end of the term. If you drop a course after that, however, there will be no reduction in fees. You will have to pay for those course hours even though you dropped the course. If you add another course after that, your fees will be based on the total hours for which you are registered.
