I am a native English speaker but received a C1 in English on a language test.

Realised for the first time in reading in the other language and not translating it!

Not sure if that made sense but in the past I would read the word, think about the English version of the word then read the sentence. But I realised now that I read the word as is without the need to change it in my head. Still have a long way to go and it’s a small realisation but it feels like a big victory to me.

I just started seriously trying to learn a new language and I've been at it consistently for 1 to 2 hours per day for three months. I feel that I've just got to the A2 level and so far I've really felt that most of my learning has been a grind (learning common words, basics of grammar, common phrases, practicing pronunciation).
