The best thing to do for you would be to check out memrise.com for yourself. It is free and will take only a short amount of time. Still, you will see if you like the interface if it has any courses that interest you, and find the activities offered quite helpful.
As per the design, not all community courses are visible from the “Search” function within the Memrise mobile app. You need to use the browser version to see the full range of the programs and modules available. It will be accessible in the app once you start practicing through the website.
Many apps are free to download but have a paid subscription and have a limited free version, which is more like a trial version. On the other hand, the free version of the Memrise is not too limited: you get access to all the courses in full, just not all the activities.
There are two kinds of courses on Memrise — the official curated programs created by the Memrise staff and the user-created content developed by the Memrise community members worldwide. The topics vary: some courses feature basic vocabulary for this or that level.
Select the course you wish to download, click the Learn tab along the bottom and then tap the download icon in the top right corner. In your app settings, you can choose to only download courses while connected to Wi-Fi. Downloaded courses will have a ✅ checkmark next to them.
How Much Does Memrise Cost? To set up a Memrise account costs nothing at all. You do need an account to use the app, but you don't have to give up any payment details. The free account gives you access to a good amount of content both in the web app and mobile apps, and there are no ads.
Please note: Memrise can only download courses for offline learning on an internal storage at the moment (not on SD cards). If the community-created course you are trying to download contains a high percentage of corrupt assets (e.g. broken or missing audio files or image files), the download will still fail.
It's definitely worth giving Memrise a try. If you really like it and are interested in a premium subscription, keep an eye out for discounts. Memrise offers huge discounts throughout the year. The annual subscription is also a lot cheaper than the monthly subscription and will save you a lot of money in the long run!
Paid — The Pro Version is not worth it. The app is absolutely free to download and sign-up. Thus, the entire languages it supports are available for no cost from beginning to end. But Memrise also has a pro version.
They're both great, but they accomplish different goals. Duolingo is more of a general language learning site with a nice learning curve that everyone can enjoy, whereas Memrise is mostly vocabulary. They work bast hand-in-hand in my experience.
Can I use Duolingo offline? Yes, users can do some lessons while offline and using the apps, but your activity will not be credited towards your daily goals unless you logon before midnight.
Which language app/course is better, Memrise or Babbel? After testing the apps/lessons from both companies, our team thinks Babbel is the more effective language learning program. We like Memrise's program and give it high marks, but Babbel is slightly more well-rounded.
Can Memrise make you fluent? Memrise cannot make a learner completely fluent in a foreign language, but it can get beginners to an intermediate or advanced learning level with regular practice.
If we compare Busuu vs Memrise, Busuu offers typical language courses more comprehensively, providing proper grammar training in just a few hours. It also covers listening skills and seemingly abstract grammatical terms. Memrise teaches languages covering more vocabulary lessons.
