What is the ATS-W? The Assessment of Teaching Skills – Written is a New York State Teacher Certification Exam that was a requirement for most Initial classroom certificate titles. This exam is a timed, computer-based test consisting of 80 multiple choice questions and one constructed response question.
The following groups of candidates are eligible for the edTPA safety net. The 2020-2021 academic year includes the Fall 2020 through Summer 2021 terms, and the 2021-2022 academic year includes the Fall 2021 through Summer 2022 terms.
Candidates who are on a list will need to create a TEACH account. The identifying information used for the TEACH account must match the information the candidate used to create their New York State Teacher Certification Exam (Pearson) account.

Candidates can apply for the safety net after completing the above requirements by sending an email to [email protected] with their first and last name as is appears in their TEACH account, the last four digits of their social security number, the date of birth, and a request that the safety net be applied.
The New York State edTPA Multiple Measures Review Process (MMRP) is for teacher candidates who do not pass the edTPA, but score within two points of the passing score and can demonstrate that they are prepared to become a teacher of record. The Board extended the existing edTPA Safety Net by one year. The ALST and MST 7-12 attestations have been revised. The revised ALST is posted on our website and the revised MST has been sent to all people that completed the tutorial and do not have an approved MST attestation in TEACH. An institution is no longer required to complete the form and attest.
Candidates who take and fail one of the eligible redeveloped CSTs (English Language Arts, Literacy, Mathematics, Multi-Subject: Teachers of Early Childhood, Multi-Subject: Teachers of Childhood, Educational Technology Specialist) will have the option of taking the corresponding predecessor CST (the Safety Net CST) in lieu of retaking the redeveloped CST.
