You can create a Strava route on your computer or smartphone. On the computer, once you’re logged into the dashboard, click on Explore and then Create a Route. Here’s how to create segment on Strava using the Strava website. First, click on the Explore tab dropdown menu on the top of the webpage, and click create a route. See my screenshot below:

If you literally want to follow your Strava segment on the Strava Mobile App (this would mean you need to carry your phone with you), it is very simple. Go to the record screen, and hit Routes. There’ll be an option to ‘Use Route’ – hit that. Boom. If you have a Garmin Watch that supports Courses, you can export your route data to your watch.
Strava's new tool is fast and simple to use. To build a route, start a workout, select the route icon, and tap the plus sign in the upper right corner of the screen. Position the map however you like, then use your finger to trace a route. You can make it squiggly or straight.
Can I still access routes for free on Strava? Strava's route builder is also moving behind a paywall. You can still view previously saved routes or save others users' routes for free, but creating new routes and editing existing routes now requires a subscription.
Route recommendations are based on public Strava activities and open-source data from OpenStreetMap. We create them by selecting popular waypoints nearby that match your search criteria, and then we generate a looped course around those waypoints using alignment data to optimize the route.
From the Strava website, open the Dashboard drop-down menu and select My Routes. From the mobile app, navigate to your saved routes from either the Maps tab or your profile page. From the Maps tab, select Saved > Saved Routes. Select See Details to open the route you wish to star.
One of the simplest ways to plan a quick running circuit of your own is to enter your starting point and destination on Google Maps. Once you have that beginning and end point on your Google Map, you can then use your mouse to drag the route around to make it more or less direct as a running route.
The biggest benefit of Premium is Live Segments, though. This allows you to see your performance on any starred segment in real time on the Strava mobile app and compatible devices.

Strava’s popularity is taking off at present in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it offers athletes a social platform base where they can hold each other accountable, spread camaraderie from afar, and stay motivated.
Please note that Training Plans are currently offered in English, German, Dutch, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish.
Choose the plan that best matches your recent or best average times as the plan times are based on current ability and not target time. For example, if you typically climb a local hill at 5:30, you should probably choose the Six Minute Climb plan option to help you improve.
He then carries the map with him on the run. It typically takes him about as long to create the plan for a design as it does to run it—an average of two hours.
For Maughan, however, the pursuit will endure. “There’s probably a lifetime’s worth of shapes I could find in the city streets here ,” he said.
You can find your created Routes or Strava Segments under the Dashboard tab, and the dropdown menu which has a ‘My Routes’ option. See the screenshot below for example.
Segment Explore on Strava is the place where you can explore already existing segments for all sports available on Strava, and varied surface types/elevation and routes.
If Strava segments aren’t appearing on your activity, it could be because your GPS has drifted or uncalibrated during the activity, or you’ve paused your watch during the segment.
Every time you go for a ride, run, or walk, once you upload your activity to Strava, any segments you completed will appear in your activity summary. If your activity is on public, you may appear on the leaderboard. If you were particularly fast on that day, you may achieve a trophy or crown. All part of the fun of Strava.
Competing in Strava Segments is entirely free, however, the create segment Strava feature is for premium members only at present.
Now that Strava and Garmin are synced, it’s time to import the Strava Segment and/or route onto your watch. To do this, make sure your route is both public, and ‘starred’. What the heck does ‘Starred’ mean?
If you literally want to follow your Strava segment on the Strava Mobile App (this would mean you need to carry your phone with you), it is very simple.
Access your Strava account from a computer or laptop (you can plan a route on your phone, but I’ve found it much easier to do it this way). Click on the + button in the top right hand corner of the screen and select ‘Create a route’.
All of the routes that you save will automatically be saved in the ‘MY ROUTES’ section of your Strava account. To access and view your saved routes, click on ‘DASHBOARD’ and select ‘MY ROUTES’ (see below).
Move the slider left and right to crop your run. I trimmed my run at the end (using black and white checked circle – bottom right), so that I had the exact distance of 4 miles, without losing any of my climb from the beginning. This is because the last section of my route is all downhill. Press the SAVE button (top right) once you have finished.
Not all of the paths and trails will be recognised by Strava, so I have selected ‘Use Manual Mode’ and changed the map to Satellite view. These options can be found in the menu on the left. This will give you greater flexibility for route planning.
