Copied items will need to be checked for Group settings and Restrict Access settings. To copy content from a course you did not teach, you will need the instructor of that course to submit this form: Allow Another Instructor to Copy Your Moodle Course.

For those of you who can install add-ons, the Sharing Cart block is a very easy way to copy just about any item from one course to another. Currently there are versions available for Moodle 2.3 thru 2.9.

Basil - The short answer to your question is no - there is no way to gracefully or automatically get the data moved. If it is the same instance, you may want to explore basically making the new teachers like parents of the student so that they could see the progress in the other class.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful & thorough response. I've actually looked at the code inside the backup/restore libraries, and everything there, unfortunately, is not very customization friendly. And there does not seem to be anything that will offer per-user backup.
Maybe this entry in the Modules and Plugins database ( MyCopy) will help. It seems to allow you to take a per-user backup. As an administrator, you've have to login as each user in turn to perform the task - very time-consuming, but at least the job will get done .

Course materials on Moodle taught four to eight years ago will be available upon request from IITS, but may take up to a week to restore. Courses taught more than eight years ago will be deleted and no longer available from IITS. We recommend you keep your own archives of any materials you want to keep, in addition to the materials kept by IITS.

I am an admin and I also teach 4 courses and need to enroll the same students in each of the 4 courses. I already have them enrolled in one of the courses which I did one by one. Since they are enrolled in this one course, is it possible to just import those to another course?
You can automatically enrol the same students in the other courses by setting up a Course meta link in each of the other courses.
