Take Charge is a 6-month health program that uses wearable activity trackers, mobile messaging and data analytics to promote behavioral adjustments in patients at risk for lifestyle-related chronic diseases. The program developed into a randomized controlled trial comparing the effectiveness of trained undergraduate health coaches, mobile messaging and wearable health tracking devices to wearable health tracking devices alone in promoting sustainable lifestyle changes including increasing physical activity, improving nutrition and ultimately heightening patient outcomes.
