Your Buff OneCard photo is directory information that is considered publicly available. If you wish to change this, you can request full privacy status from the Registrar. Once this is granted, your Canvas profile picture will no longer be reset daily. Then, to remove your picture, visit the Canvas guide How do I add a profile picture in my user account as a student?
Profile pictures help instructors and TAs get to know their students’ faces, and having a standardized format for student pictures aids this process. Students typically don’t need assistance learning the faces of their instructors, and in online classes, an instructor can use a custom profile picture to better personalize themselves to their students.
Even if you are also a student, being a TA or instructor exempts you from having your Buff OneCard photo uploaded to Canvas.
Unless you are an instructor or TA in a current- or future-term course, your Canvas profile pic will be set to match your Buff OneCard photo. This is done because Buff OneCard photos use a standardized format, making it easy for instructors and other students to recognize you in course rosters.
Buff OneCard photos are not uploaded for instructors or TAs.
In Canvas, your campus Buff OneCard photo appears as your profile picture. Although Canvas allows you to change your profile picture, please note that it will be replaced each morning with your Buff OneCard photo.
