Adjust due date for Canvas Assignment Click into your course site. Click on the Assignments link on the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen. On the Assignments page, locate the assignment you wish to edit. Then, click on the assignment title. Click the Edit button in the upper right corner.
Admins and instructors can also change student access settings to allow or restrict students from viewing the course before the start or end date [5]. Access relates to published courses. If a course is unpublished or does not include a link [1], students cannot have access to any course content until the start date of the term. If a course is published [2], students are able to view content before the start of the term.
Read-only means that a course is not available for submitting assignments, posting discussions, uploading files, grading, or any other action-based task within a course.
Term dates define a fixed period of time for an institution where users can participate in a course. Term dates can also be used for semesters, trimesters, or quarters. In this example, the term runs from July 2, 2018, to December 23, 2018.
Sections can be moved from term to term or course to course. If section enrollments need to be moved, such as for cross-listing a section into another course, section enrollments should be moved before students submit any coursework, as course participation cannot be transferred across sections.
By default, course dates default to the term dates [2]. However, course dates can be set to override the term dates or compliment the term dates. Both admins and instructors can manage these dates.
The term end date is the final date in the current semester as listed in the table above. If an instructor would prefer the entire course and its course materials not be visible to students after the term end date:
As noted above, you may always export a concluded course for import back into Canvas ( Text instructions ), or use a concluded course as the source for copying into a new course ( Text instructions | Video tutorial ). If you wish to update the content of a concluded course for use in the future, but you do not have a current term course in which to do that, you may wish to request a Sandbox course to copy into and work with, since you cannot edit a concluded course directly.
Closing your Course. There is nothing you have to do to close your Canvas course; at the term end date (see below), your course will be set to Concluded status and moved onto the Past Enrollments course list for you and your students. By default you and your students will continue to have read-only access to the course.
For both you and your students, the course navigation menu is your means of finding your way around your Canvas course site. However, the menu may not look the same for you and your students. When you view the course navigation menu of a site in which you are an instructor, you will note that some links are black, while others are light gray.
1. To begin adjusting your course navigation menu, click on Settings in the course navigation menu, and choose the Navigation tab at the top.
Once you have customized your course navigation menu to your liking, you can use Canvas’ Student View tool to look at your course site through the eyes of a student. This is an excellent way to make sure that your students will have access to the correct items in the course navigation menu.

When your course concludes is based on your course’s end date, courses are moved from " Current Enrollments " to " Past Enrollments ."
Once the course’s set end date is reached, the course will be available for students to view in read-only form for one year. Students and instructors will not be able to edit or submit assignments, change due dates, upload files, change course settings, or otherwise interact with the course.
While instructors cannot change the level of access available after the course concludes, instructors are able to edit the course before the course conclusion date is reached.
