Refund Policy

There are limited criteria under which a refund may be granted. This differs depending on the type of course. Details for each can be found below.

Award courses

Refunds will not be granted automatically. You are expected to be aware of your work and personal commitments before you enrol, and will need to demonstrate that the cause of withdrawal could not be reasonably anticipated before you enrolled.

TAFE SA initiated refunds

Where a refund results from a situation caused by TAFE SA, eg cancelled class, a full refund of the fees will be given.

How to withdraw

Formal withdrawal is important for students who are enrolled with a Commonwealth VET Student Loan. Students with an approved Commonwealth student loan will incur a liability for the units they have enrolled in if they remain enrolled after the census dates.

Refund policy

Full refunds are not available if you change your mind after enrolling in a course. Eligibility for a refund varies according to the type of qualification you have enrolled into and whether you withdrew before or after the census date. Discretionary fees are non-refundable in all circumstances. Deferrals are not available.

Concession refunds

If you are unable to present proof of concession at the time of enrolment, you must pay full fees. You may claim a refund to adjust your fees to the concessional rate if proof of eligibility for concession can be demonstrated prior to the commencement of the unit.

Payment plan refunds

If you’re on an instalment plan, you will only be entitled to a refund if the total owed by you is less than the refund due. In situations where you owe more than the refund due, a new fees payment agreement will be issued and outstanding debt amended.

How long can you defer a course?

Typically, students with an approved deferral of longer than two weeks, would recommence their studies at the next available term or semester for their course. An administration fee may be charged for a deferral application, see Refunds for details.

The allowed circumstances for deferrals are, but not limited to: 1 compassionate and compelling circumstances beyond the control of the international student which may have an impact on course commencement, progress or wellbeing 2 serious illness or injury – a medical certificate must state clearly that the international student was unable to attend classes for the relevant period 3 bereavement – the death of close family members. Where possible a copy of a death certificate should be supplied 4 major political upheaval or natural disaster in the home country which requires the international student to return (emergency travel) and this has impacted on studies 5 traumatic experience – for example, being involved in or witnessing an accident or a crime which may have a negative impact on the international student’s capacity to study (in these cases police or medical practitioner reports are required).

How long is a leave of absence?

For continuing students, absences of less than two weeks are considered a leave of absence and can be approved by the relevant program area. Absences of more than two weeks are considered a deferral and require approval by both the program area and the International Unit (using the required form indicated below).

New students

New students are required to pay first semester tuition fees and any material fees outlined in their Letter of Offer. The payment is required as acceptance of our Letter of Offer. When we receive your payment and a Course Acceptance form, a Confirmation of Enrolment will be provided so that a student visa application can be submitted.

A Fees Notice will be sent to the address you provide in your application and will include the amount due and payment dates.

How to get a refund for a program?

To apply for a refund of fees paid you must officially withdraw from your program or subject/s within your program in which you have registered for study by completing an Enrolment Amendment Form. This form can be accessed by speaking to the Administrative staff in your Teaching Department. Once completed and signed the Form will be forwarded to the Information Office for processing.

When are tuition fees due for a class?

Fees are due before the classes start. To be eligible for a refund you must withdraw within 28 days of the subject/s start date and you may receive a refund of your tuition fees, subject to any conditions placed on your fees. Activity fees may be refundable conditional upon Teaching Department approval.

Does Holmesglen automatically enroll you?

Holmesglen will not automatically enrol you in the subsequent subject/s in a program in which you had enrolled after withdrawal. You will need to contact the Information Office for further assistance.
