Adamowski’s DIY setup is more than two years in the making. It started with an old sleeping bag stuff sack filled with sand. Just carrying that around the yard built better upper body strength. But inventing a yard’s worth of mostly recycled training tools has become a hobby for Adamowski, a landscaper by trade.
Adamowski applies the same DIY mindset to constructing training obstacles inside and outside his home.
But the household warrior training platforms are not just Adamowski’s playground. His wife, Chris, a competitive endurance athlete, dabbles as well. She won her age group in the one Spartan sprint race she entered.

If you’ve never done a Spartan Sprint before, you might wonder how you would train for one. The race is about 3-4 miles with 15+ obstacles. Because the Spartan Coordinators don’t release the course map to competitors beforehand, there’s no way of knowing exactly what you need to prepare for: you have to be ready for anything. Regardless of what the obstacles are, your endurance, speed, and upper and lower body strength are tested. If you want to be competitive, you’re going to have to include all these components of fitness into your training routine.
Obstacle course races are a fun way to challenge your mental and physical limits, compete with others, and get a little dirty. Look around for the best space available to you for your obstacle course. Hills might be obstacles themselves and can add difficulty to your course. Flat areas are a great location if you plan on building obstacles yourself that need to be level.
Consider inflatable obstacles . A safe and easy option for creating an obstacle course is to make use of inflatable obstacles. Since these obstacles are inflatable they pose a low risk of injury and can add an appealing and lighthearted feeling to your obstacle course.
Place them according to plan. Having assembled your obstacles you can begin to place them according to your obstacle course layout plan. Place the obstacles where you planed them and evaluate their position before opening up our course to others.
Partners might have to throw and catch a ball a certain number of times. The three-legged race is a good obstacle that requires teamwork (When doing a three-legged race, be sure that the pairs ankles are touching and the rope used is tight around their ankles.

Building a simple obstacle course for your friends and family on the other hand will not require such steps.
