The free course has some huge disadvantages as well. For starters, the free TLSAE course takes 14 to 16 weeks to complete, which is just crazy, compared to the paid courses which can be completed in under one week. You might think that means there is much more content in the free course, but you would be mistaken. The course material through Aceable, for example, is far superior with a 99% pass rate and takes much less time to complete. Forcing a student to learn material over a 3 to 4 month period makes no sense at all and actually REDUCES retention rates.
In fact, for many subjects, teens actually retain more information with online coursework. Let’s face it, learning about the rules of the road and how to read traffic signs isn’t all that exciting. By taking the coursework online, students are forced to interact, take quizzes to ensure they are understanding the material, and get their information through a variety of ways such as videos, animations, text, images, audio, etc. Tracking systems can also help show students their own individual strengths and weaknesses, so they know what to pay special attention to. And of course, most online TLSAE courses will come with parent resources and course progress monitoring as well.
Within the full list of online Florida TLSAE courses, there is one gem that you might miss. Did you know there is a FREE option? While I do NOT recommend the free course (I’ll get into why a bit later), this is a fantastic option for those who are in a financial bind. The Florida state government has selected a program called the Florida Virtual School to be a free option for TLSAE students. Pretty cool!
All students learn differently and I would never say that taking the Florida TLSAE course online is the best option for everyone. However, I do think the online coursework is superior to classrooms for a few different reasons…
Very few classroom-based TLSAE courses will be able to offer you that. While these are all reasons I think an online TLSAE course is the best option in Florida, some students do need the structure of a classroom-based course and a real human-being to ask questions to.
Students Can Study At Their Own Pace – Unlike classroom settings where students are forced to attend at certain times and complete coursework before certain deadlines, an online TLSAE course allows a ton of flexibility. Students are able to learn on their time and when they want to. Have a big test to study for tomorrow? No problem. Can you concentrate due to the big school dance coming up? No need to request an extension. Feel like getting some TLSAE coursework done? You can log in or out anytime, from any device, whenever you want, 24/7/365.
