Widget Areas for LearnDash simply gives you more places to add custom content in LearnDash. By utilizing built-in LearnDash action hooks, we assign widget areas (also known as “sidebars”) to various locations throughout your LearnDash pages.
There are two ways you can add widgets to the new widget areas that this plugin creates. Navigate to “Appearance > Customize” and click on “Widgets”. Make sure you’re previewing a page that contains the widget areas. Click on the widget area in which you’d like to add widgets. Click the “Add Widget” button.
Yes. Widget Areas for LearnDash should work with almost all themes. We use standard LearnDash action hooks, so as long as your theme is not modifying this LearnDash code (they shouldn’t be), then it should work. You might experience some spacing irregularities, depending on how your theme styles its default widgets.
If you’re already using the Design Upgrade for LearnDash plugin (free or pro), the spacing is automatically added for you. Not only does it add spacing, but it upgrades many other aspects of the LearnDash design.
In Elementor, the LearnDash widgets are located in the “WordPress” section in the left panel. You can also access them using the “Search Widget…” bar at the top. The following LearnDash widgets are available:

Just about all WordPress themes work with page builders ( and with LearnDash), but some work better . In general, themes that explicitly provide page builder support will give you more control over the design of your courses. A few popular themes that have been specifically designed for use with page builders are: Astra.
Let’s say you’re okay with the “Return to” text, but you’d like to show an arrow pointing backwards. This is a small indicator that you’re going back to the main course page.
Now let’s say you just want to move the link to the very top of your course navigation, above all the lessons & topics. We can do that with CSS as well.
To completely remove the “Return to [Course]” link all together, use this CSS:
Here are the important things to know: LearnDash Settings: Only visible to users with the manage_options capability, which by default, is only Administrators .
The Courses widget provides a scrollable list of up to 10 courses. The information displayed depends on the user’s capabilities & access to certain admin pages. I’ll explain each piece of information below.
You can customize how your courses are sorted within your grid using a combination of the orderby and order parameters. orderby tells LearnDash which piece of information you’d like to sort by, and order determines which direction the sort should occur (i.e. forwards or backwards).
A course ribbon is a small piece of information displayed in the top-corner of each course in your grid. It’s displayed over top of all other content, and the text it displays depends on…. the specific user viewing your grid, and their enrollment status. the course access mode for that particular course.
It will be displayed immediately below the course title. We recommend no more than 2 sentences and somewhere around 15-25 words.
Change 123 to the ID of the course in which you want to display quizzes. You cannot filter quizzes by lesson or topic, only by course. All quizzes assigned at any point during the course (lesson quizzes, topic quizzes, final course quizzes) will be displayed.
